My feet hurt, but that’s okay.
So i made it to Dee’s, with minimal pain. The train from Prague was delayed by like two hours, so I ended up walking into Centraale and meeting everyone there. A scary old man cracked walnuts for me while I was there, which I guess was nice of him...? I guess as I was sitting there waiting with mountainous amounts of luggage he thought it was a good time for walnuts. I wasn’t game to eat them (i don’t even like the things) but i also didn’t want to throw them out in case he saw and decided to knife me or something.
I think I’m finally past the jetlag, I slept normal hours last night. New Years probably kind of helped. I’ll put up my photos as soon as I get to a computer that I can load them onto. It’s a little complicated with Peter, so it’s easier just to wait. I slept from about four til six thirty on New Years Eve, and hated everyone when Dee woke me up. It’s funny, usually I’m fairly good on waking up, but I have never hated life nor anyone in it so much as when I was woken up at six thirty on New Years Eve. I wanted to take Dee’s tea with rum and throw it in her face, that’s how irrational and unreasonable i was feeling. Anyway, a couple of tea and rums for myself fixed that up and I approached a level of normalcy as the night went on. We were supposed to go into Amsterdam, but the dirty lying internet told us the last train went at 9.30, when in fact it went at 8,so we spent the night in Utrecht. The canberra effect was strongly felt, too, when Jacqui’s friend Brett and i realised that we had classes together at ANU. Highlights of the night included the best felafel I had ever had the pleasure of tasting in my entire life (why did i have to be born on the other side of the planet to the best kebab shop in the world?) the crazy crazy fireworks at midnight that went off all around us, and the mad Dutch countdown song. I only made it til about one o’clock before I was just too wrecked to do anything, so I cabbed it back to Dee’s. Being jetlagged just made me feel completely nauseous, so I didn’t really drink heaps either. The thought of an epic hangover plus a total inability to sleep at the right times was a little too much.
I had the pleasure of being company to a Brassil family reunion last night, too, when two of Dee’s cousins and one of her uncles were all in town, and we went out for tapas. Her brother and his friend have been here as well. Dee’s family is hilarious, I’m terribly jealous. All the stories from her family seem to involve ridiculous drunkenness and random inanimate objects.
We’re heading into town, must go shower. |
