a white easter
I booked my tickets for Paris and Scotland this week...exciting times out of London.

It feels like forever ago that it was Thursday night, it certainly has been a long weekend. I went out with Gav on Thursday night (I know, Gav, of all people) to some random pub in Leceister Square. I was treated to an exclusive insight to exactly how deep his love for Shorty is, matched only by his new found love for African children...I know exactly how that sounds. It was good to be out of the house with the prospect of four days off. Admittedly, I haven’t really done much with my four days, but money has been something of a restraint. It the end, the biggest part of Thursday night was the epic attempt to get home. Since I had forty pounds to last five days, I braved the night bus system, only to end up stuck at a bus stop in Soho in torrential rain, with no buses for about forty-five minutes. I did eventually make it home, but it took me about two hours or negotiating stops and routes. I have never been so glad to crawl into bed.

I went to Reading on Friday, to see Shawry. Again, I thought I’d be really smart and avoid taking the £35 return train (because let’s be honest, for a half-hour journey, that’s exorbitant)and managed to get a coach fare for £12 return. I still think $25 for a trip to Reading is more than it should be, but I suppose that’s because I still live in the frame of mind of an Australian student. The only problem with my £12 coach fare was that it didn’t stop in Reading proper - it stopped at a Sainsbury’s out on the causeway, about a half-hour local bus ride away from the station. Even from the station, it’s a ten minute cab ride to Shawry’s place. So where I thought I’d be there relatively quickly and cheaply, I found myself quickly becoming familiar with Reading’s bus system.

You know what, I love you Shawry, and I’m really glad you’ll never read this because you are useless with facebook and all of that, because I am really not so keen on the way so many of my friends have become couple-units. I’m not just saying this because I am the token single friend of so many people, but I hate it when my friends get coupled up and suddenly you can never deal with them as an individual again. They are sucked into their relationship and become naught but a shadow of their former independent selves. I do get it we’re hitting an age where a lot of people have settled into long-term relationships, but still, why do they all have to sacrifice their other friendships because of it? I like Alisha and all, in fact I generally like most of my friends’ significant others, but when it gets to the point where you never have any time with them without said SO, or where they can’t make a decision without them, or where they aren’t the same person when SO is around, I think it’s totally shit. Shawry shits me when he’s doting affection upon anyone. Why do I feel like we probably won’t get the chance to fly his mad ass remote control helicopters now that his girlfriend has moved to England? (Of course he’d do it with Matt, but he’s kind of in love with Matt, and Matt’s a guy, so it’s different...being a female friend seems to make it unnecessarily complicated)

Anyway, rant over…

So I got home from Reading Saturday afternoon, Ambo came over and we did takeaway and Fantasia. Actually, you know, Ambo dropped a huge bombshell when she was over...did any of you know that you can in fact copy your music from your iPod onto other computers? Without software? I couldn’t believe it, I think my jaw hit the floor. It’s so freaking easy, too. You just link the thing up, search for hidden files, and then copy them. I think Applethinks we’re all dumb, and obviously we are, since this hasn’t become mainstream knowledge. (I suppose there is every chance my blog will get shut down after this)

Other than my apparent socialness, I have been occupying myself with a jigsaw...Ambo and I started it on Sunday morning and it’s becoming something of an obsession...which is a problem because I still have four days of work before I can put it out in the family room without fear of a four-year-old eating the pieces. My floorspace is not really that expansive, so it’s interesting to try and get around it in day to day life.

Oh, how dumb am I? I completely forgot to mention that it snowed on Saturday night, and we woke up to a white Easter. Terribly cool. I’ll put up the photos soon. Less cool when you’re walking around it without enough a waterproof coat, however.

Anyway, I’m kinda hungry, so I might go do something about that.Wish me luck with the holidays. Four whole days with the kids not at school. Yay.
