| Need a Doctor? I Know A Few... ! |
Today I was asking around the office if anyone knew of a good Primary Physician they could refer me to, in order to get an annual check up. A few people began giving me names and numbers and telling me about their doctors. Anyway, as they’re giving me their doctors’ information, I can’t help but notice they all mention the same thing which is ‘Make sure you tell him you know me’ or ‘Make sure you give him my name and tell him I sent you.’ Now, this doesn’t only happen when referred to a doctor; it applies to any referral. ‘My mechanic’s name is X; here’s his number; make sure you tell him I sent you.’ ‘My gardener’s name is Z, here’s his number; tell him you’re calling him on my behalf.’
The more I was thinking about it, the more I asked myself why? Is there a commission you get for referring someone? I don’t think so…or maybe there is and I’ve never known about it? So, as I was getting the last referral from one close friend, she mentioned the same thing ‘Doctor X is a great doctor; here’s his number. When you see him, be sure to tell him I sent you.’ Now, since this girl is a close friend and she knows how sarcastic I am, I couldn’t help myself and I asked her ‘Why? Why do I have to tell him you sent me?’ After all, he’s a doctor! Its not like he’s going to say to me ‘Oh, Claudia sent you?! ok, then I’ll use real medicine with you…you see? I give tick tacks to the others I don’t know’
My friend just laughed and she agreed, she said I was right; it was just a habit. Is it really a ‘habit’? I don’t know, but if you need a doctor, I have 10 names for referral, just let me know. The great thing is, I won’t ask you to tell them I sent you because I don’t even know them
Enjoy!
