Well I can only speak for myself. Personally I that too many people in this world judge others just by skin color, race and religion alone. If we could learn to accept people they way they are, things would be better. Then again there are just some people in this world that think they are better than the rest of us, and will do anything to make themselves more "better, powerful" ect.. Like I said this is just my thoughts.. Again I feel that its not a persons skin color that makes a person.. its the person I look at.

I am white but i do not see myself as better than any other skin colour because i can see that in every race there are good and bad. Some of most fnatastic people i have met so far are of different colours to me, as are some of the most successful people in the world. But coming from london this is what i see and why people generalise. All this youth crime that goes on and the stabbings and the shootings, the majority of these crimes committed are by non-whites. it's these faces that pop up in the papers or on your tv screen whenever somehting bad happens in the world (remember i am talking about the majority of what i see!), it causes people to generalise and make assumptions. On thw whole it is the non whites that are living in poverty but if they concentrated on their current position and how they can improve their life instead of blaming society and if we all dropped the racism argument (becasue lets face it in this day and age it doesn't matter what colour you are to get somewhere in life) then i think there would be a lot more equality. No race is better than any other. No individual is better than any other.

I am a white girl and when walking down the street if i pass someone of a different colour or race it does not occur to me to think i am better than you because i believe and always have been brought up to believe everyone is equal,no matter colour, race, religion, rich or poor everyone is capable of achieveing great things. But like aasha above, in london recently their have been many stabbings and shootings between young people and a lot of the pictures you see in the newspapers show pictures of young black men which is why since I have moved from london to west sussex iv found many young people of my age to be very racist which i was not use to, buti think this is the reason behind it that they hear about these stabbings and strat away think it was commited by someone of colour which isnt always the case( im just saying often the pictures are of people of colour) I have also found the racism down here in sussex is mostly commited by men, i find many still live in the dark ages because their isnt much of a mix of races.anyhow i no racism still exsists but the majority of white people do not think they are better than anyone of colour and i would be astonished to find out if a majority of white people did think they were better. good luck with your book hope to see it on the shelfs one day.

It's funny that you think that white people spent their time giving people of other races that much thought. Oh sure there are those people in the world of all colors that think they are better than others but I would guess most people don't notice race unless their attention is drawn to it. From my experience many people of color are very defensive and the first thing that comes to their mind when something goes wrong for them is that racism is involved. Most of the time it seem to be normal challenges that all of us face but for people of color it’s racism. I’ll give you an example.
I was at a Luncheon where there was a speaker who was a black woman who worked in the administrative office of a large school district. This woman was very high up in the district and I believe she had her Doctorate. She was relating a story about how when she first got to the school district she walk into her first meeting and everyone in the room was white. She said that she had to change who she was in that environment in order fit in. I will tell you that that would be true for anyone going into a new situation like that. Most people would go into that situation being a little quite, getting a feel for how things are done before their true self comes out. So here you have a very educated woman who still feels the situation was because she was black when in fact it was a normal situation that everyone would experience.
During this speech she also talked about how she had to talk to her kids about how to get along in the world and what they would experience and tried to prepare them on how to handle various situations. Well guess what, white people have to do the same thing. Just another normal situation attributed to this woman perception of racism. I know the conversation would entail different topics but it’s still something that most responsible parents would do.
The point of my entry is this; you get what you are looking for. If you expect to be treated with less respect you are going to find it. If you live you life truthfully, honorably and respectfully, then people you encounter will treat you that way. It’s a funny thing about respect; you’re not going to get it until you give it first.

I am a white girl from TX and I will say this... no race is better than the other. People that think that whites, blacks, asians, mexicans...ect should be sat down and shown that there is no such thing as "a dominate race". I beileve that everyone should look in there hearts and stop blameing things on our generation. The generation we are living in is nothing compared to what our forefathers had. If anyone is to blame, it is our ancestors who started the words "Dominate Race"... that is all I will say... I wish you luck on your book...

The people that I know or have had contact with who are white often fail to understand what life is like being of colored skin. People of colored skin often fail to understand how life is for whites.
I am dark like milk chocolate, but genetically I have TONS of non-black blood. Most people seem to respect me but you NEVER get FULL respect cause they figure you're just black.
I see the problem REALLY is SOCIAL status because even blacks are prejudiced against other blacks just as whites are prejudiced against other whites.
For example I listen to all types of music but whites EXPECT me listen to blast rap, but so do blacks. I like heavy rock but blacks somehow consider it a disrespect even though the earliest ROCK stars were black.Whites think I'm a wannabe.
But this carries on in all prejudices, religious, cultural, social, etc.
What it boils down to is the HAVES and HAVE NOTS. In Britain, the Celtic/Gaelic folks, after centuries of Anglo-Saxon oppression, blamed their lack of social status on those who gave up their culture and integrated with the oppressors or on those who themselves, after their own centuries of their own oppressions, are trying to move up or alleviate the situation. They in turn vented against others, usually the social system itself. This happens right here in America, too and in ways most people are not even aware of.
The struggling white blames equal opportunity for giving his job to a nonwhite. The nonwhite blames the white for not giving a fair chance to succeed because he has been born in a lacking situation. The poor black blames the rich, but still socially struggling black, for selling out.The poor white blames the rich, but still morally struggling white for being too liberal and too fair.
What they (WE) all fail to see is the ones who are blowing their opportunities to fix the situation. These are the ones, regardless of color or status, that have PLENTY and flaunt it, often in a wasteful manner.Instead, of giving back or helping those in need they sit back and watch the dogs fight for the scraps of substance and loyalty.
What we often DO see in society is the outbursts. The poor, unable to succeed financially, turn to crime & detachment. The rich, unable to stifle the crime, turn to more oppression & detachment themselves.Neither side, with its many variables, gets it.
So to input to your question, it is NOT COLOR but what people THINK THE COLOR can or cannot do. A little education, meaningful understanding and serious communication is DESPERATELY needed.
