This blog is about sharing a big change in life. Moving from Virginia to the San Francisco Bay Area is a huge distance in miles. But wait! There's more!
After living overseas for longer than twenty years, a person accumulates many things, besides many friends and memories. AH (sorry, no names here) is now moving across the country to a position on the west coast. Professional packers, friends, and yours truly are sorting and boxing and stowing hundreds of items like furniture and collected treasures that have been (for lack of a better word) piling up here on the east coast. AH and I are driving her car across the country later this week, after all is packed, and the shipper loads all into a truck and leaves.
Monday (today) was an intense effort by 5 professional packers, AH, and 3 friends. We were all exhausted. Rain threatened all day but we made it as sprinkles began in the afternoon. Tuesday will see us finish packing with the shipping company swinging on Wednesday. Cardboard boxes are in a big pile on the curb waiting for the recycling pickup Tuesday morning. The shipping containers are locked and we finally relaxed and had a good dinner.
As we cross the country we will keep the blog up. Follow us and enjoy a great road trip. AH has never been across this land by car (or train or bus), but only by air. I have been across (3,000+ miles) three and a half times. Twice on family vacations, once in the mid 50's as an immigrant, and one insane round trip hitchhiking on Christmas leave while I was in the Army.
So in three days from now we will be headed over the Appalachians - now to bed and rest for tomorrow!
