 Women ministers
I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is (also) a minister of the church at Cenchreae,
that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the holy ones, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a benefactor to many and to me as well. Greet Mary, Julia,(Junia) who has worked hard for you. Great Nereus and his sister and my Mother. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

Now to him who can strengthen you, according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic writings and, according to the command of the eternal God, made known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Bible: Romans Chapter 16  (some portions of it)

Notes
Paul endeavors through the long list of greetings to establish strong personal contact with congregations. The combination of Jewish, Gentile names of women attest That God has no preferrence in sex regarding the message of the gospel as long as is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel of Christ is for anyone and everyone regardlessof nationality, sex, religious background, and race.

The name Junia is a woman's name. One ancient Greek manuscript and a number of ancient versions read the name "Julia." Most editors have interpreted it as a man's name, Junias.

Paul displays genuine concern for the congregations in Rome by warning them against self-seeking teachers. It would be a great loss, he intimates, if their obedience, which is known to all (cf Romans 1:8), would be diluted.

Paul's gospel reveals the mystery kept secret for long ages: Which is justification and salvation through faith, with all the implications for Jews and Gentiles that Paul has developed in the letter.

Great post! It's unfortunate that some congregations don't value the spiritual gifts of half of their members!

My bible says servant , as Mary [mother of Jesus] was a servant of the church, the bible clearly states the rolls of women of great servitude, and some were prophets, but not to minister over men, there were no female Apostles, the pillars of the church, if there was it would have made all the differance. This is the whole issue with Eve coming from Adam, God covers Christ, Christ covers man, man covers woman, woman covers the children, the order of God. Its only been apparent in recent times that we now have female Rabbi's, and now female muslim ministers, a new trend although there have been many in christianity which is over grown with many weeds.

I spent many years as a disciple of a group where the congregation [according to the pattern of the first church] gathered in a circle of men, women and children to sing songs, speak as we were moved [unctioned] by the Holy Spirit, from where we got our spiritual direction, and then we would pray as we were moved in our hearts. Very organic but pure.

PRAVUIL: Thank you for your comments. It is through our pride and sinful nature that we distort the word of God.
