Mayan Indians who populated the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico hundreds of years ago. On Dec. 21, 2012, the Mayan predicts that the world will end. According to Western interpretation of the Long Count calendar created by the Mayans indians. The sky, sun, dry land, oceans, all of them will act up. There will be huge tsunamies due to tectonic shifts causing great devasting flood on the Earth. Coastal cities like New York will be washed away by a tsunamis in a greater magnitude ever witness by our recent civilizations. Chicago, which used to be swamps returns to its original state because of the North Pole melting ice which quickly causes the Great Lakes to overflow, that in turn causes Lake Michigan to have a major water run off inundating the land.
The Mayans studied the stars and the movements of the moon and sun, developing several calendars including the Long Count, which measures huge periods of time, along with a calendar to mark the passing of a year. The Long Count Calendar measures time in cycles of years. The current cycle, or baktun, is scheduled to end in the northern hemisphere on the winter solstice in 2012. This cycle will have lasted about 394 years, and is the last in a series of 13 baktuns (cycles), the first of which started in 3114 B.C. So according to the Mayans on Dec. 21, 2012 their Long Count calendar cycle comes to and end or close.
But how accurate is the Mayan calendar and should we pay attention to it? Do we need to prepare for an astronomical event the equivalent of Armageddon? Every year the Sun, Earth and the Milky Way galaxy align in a particular manner in the days leading up to the winter solstice. What is special about 2012 is for the first time in 26,000 years this alignment will occur on December 21, the actual date of the winter solstice.
Speculation that the Maya believed something catastrophic will happen were made only individuals from the West who have interpreted the calendar themselves.
Mayan indians were accurate in charting the movements of the heavens without the benefit of telescopes. Some scientist say the Mayans predictions have nothing to do with astronomy but instead with creation. The Maya believed in multiple creations, one of which ended with the great flooding of the Earth, (Noah's flood).
If there are events coming to a head is not because of the Maya predictions but because of the human element and the current state of society spiring downward. The earth is precious and with a fragil ecology. We have abused it by our deforestation, plant and trees have a process of giving oxygen to the earth. The constant digging for oil, precious metals and jewels, exploting atomic radioactive boms under the earth and oceans can cause the earth major internal damages. Our current lifestyle of toxic dumping, pollution and the way we treat the environment will bring about our lots of negative changes in our world. The way we treat our plant is unforgiving, unsustainable to the earth, the oceans and our precious plants, animals, birds and us.
The world will never end on any of mans prediction, however we can make it very hard to live on a planet scarre by our abuses. That to some would be like the end of the world, anyway the end of the easy and fun lifestyle we are living now days.
The end of the world including us and the earth as a puff of smoke is determined by God and no man knows the year, month, day, nor hour. Only God has that information. Not even the angels in heaven have access to that information only God who created us and the world knows when enough is enouch.
