Revelation 13 verse 3: From the Bible: And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
Who or what is this thing that received a mortal wound and died? Yet this thing wil leave again in our near future. First we need to know how many empires have been in the world that had reigned supreme, and know which was the last empire. There has been six empires. Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. The 7th empire is the one to come and the 8th, which is counted as the 7th empire with be the revival of the Roman empire. Satan will take over this empire. He will be the real head of the human empire. It will be Satan's empire but is counted as the 7th empire.
Why would Satan take over this empire? When Satan was created by God he was the very best of the bunch. He was perfect in beauty, intelligence and splendor. Pride took hold of him. He thought he could defeat God and be the boss. Now, how stupid is that! In his egocentric mind he saw himself as God. He convinced 1/3 of the angels in heaven that he should be the boss. Mutiny in heaven wasn't tolerated by the Creator. Satan fought hard against the Archangel and lost big time. He got kicked out of heaven, new destination, earth. Exiled, expelled, driven out to earth along with his rebel army, he decided to make war with God's human creation.
Satan is a copy cat. What ever God does he does. God gave Jesus his son a body, Jesus was cruxified in a body of flesh and bones. Satan was not given a human body for he is a spirit. In order to duplicate the Jesus birth he has to invade a body. That would be the human body of a real person put in a governmental high rank charge. Satan will invade such body and become the Antichrist we hear about. Satan and the Antichrist are on of the same. Satan in human form but that human earthly body is not his, it was not given to him by God he invaded or stole it in a sense in order to become the supreme leader or boss of the world through this new and final empire.
Rome was the last world empire ruled by one man the emperor of Rome. Some people think that the thing or beast with the fatal injury is Nero, a horrific Roman emperor. His beastiality, cruelty knew no bounds. A murderer of his own family, he had no love for anyone or anything except his so called art. Fancing himself to be an artist he burned Rome and put the blame on the Christians of that era. In many books you will find the quotation about Nero's behavior during the burning of Rome, it reads, "Nero, played the flute while Rome burned."
Nero murdered the Christians in the most horrible way you can imagine. Making torches of them at night so that he can watch more of his horrid crimes by the light of their burning corpses. Did Nero think he could outsmart the Roman populace? Well, he was wrong! At first they were in agreement with him because they saw the Christians as a strange and different set of people. But they soon wised up when Nero started to build his magnificent castle upon the ruins of burned out Rome.
Soon enough the hunter becamed the hunted and been a coward as he was he plunged a knife into his throat and killed himself. Some say that 'this' is the mortal wound that is refered to in the Bible. But I think not. Because if he lived again he would be more than a mortal man and he would be immitating Jesus Christ who rosed from the dead and is the only man of flesh and blood who done such a thing. There is no way a monster like him could claim such miracle. That was reserved and received by only one man, "Jesus".
No man can claim resurrection apart from Jesus. If you turn back the pages of history to the time when one kingdom dominated most of Europe and other parts of the world then you will begin to understand that this "it", is a system, a government created by someone very smart, crafty and evil. But how can one government has such power as to control the world's inhabitants. Such a global system has to have someone powerful, cunning and with great power. That leaves the only one that the Dragon gives power to and that is the Antichirst.
The Romans had forged a united Europe , a genious conquering army. The Holy Roman Emperors, did what till today was considered impossible.
Many pretenders to the throne tried and failed, remember Napoleon, and Hitler they too tried to unified Europe. Hitler claimed that his Nazi government would reigned supreme for one thousand years and it came crashing down. All those people who suffered under such tyrants and lost family and love ones during two major world wars have a massive hunger for peace and prosperity free of wars. In unification they can achieve that dream. No member can wage war against another member. They can protect each other without fear of been attacked by each other's armies. They can travel to and fro without a visa for it is all one continent, one army, one government. No other nation would dared attack a unified Europe for it will be asking for the wrath of all it's national members. Unity and numbers equals strentgh.
First, something extra ordinary and dangerous must happen that would make the inhabitants of planet earth go to such extremes. Why would nations who are so independent would join one government and pledge the alligance to their laws and creed and the head of that government. Why? A nuclear Third World War.
As it stands now, Europe has found great pleasure in ridiculing Americas ways of life. Making fun of Americans is now very fashionable in their media programs. The people of Europe love American products but they don't care too much for Americans. One of the things that they hate is the "war in Iraq." America's foreign policy is now greatly opposed. They see our President as a blood thirsty bully. Our amazing arrogance of wanting to teach but not wanting to learn from our neighbors, that the world starts in New York and it ends in California, is another of our ideas that has not made us very popular with other countries in these planet. But one thing we in America have to understand that we are not what we used to be.
Ah! I remember back in 1966, I was a very young girl who took a PAM AM flight with my older sister. We were to visit my grandmother in another country. It was a wonderful flight. The plane was gorgeous, well built, and the passengers, that is my sister and I, were treated with great courtesy and respect. Americans were special and treated like such. Except for communist countries we were the "golden child" of the world. American dollars were coveted by other nations.
Now, the apple is turned rotten and unwanted by many of its previous consumers. We are seeing as continental bullies. From that definition a new power has been born. Oh! Europe is not stupid enough to think they can out gun us in war but they know that they can exerts their influence in the economic market. Check out

Brussels, the heart of the EU. Twenty-five national flags, plus the European's blue banner with its circle of twelve gold start. Can you find the American flag waving along with the other nation's flags. No! Is not there and not wanted there. The European Quater looks very impressive and feels like a major government agency. But you have yet to see the European Parliament building. Is a block-long structure with all the members flags line up outside. Limo's pulling to the curb and continually picking up or delivering important dignitaries, people with a lot of clout, a lot of important money entering or living that piece of real estate.
That incredibly monumental parliament and the other massive building of the Quartier Europeen shows the real manifestation of an idea. an idea that has been entertained for centuries in Europe. A one wolrd, a united force, a political and unstopable machine. Who or what can stand up against it. A force unequalled to any other force in the present world. They believed that united Europe can amputate USA mighty long arms of power. Who is to say that they cannot. If we become hated and the world unites against us, what are we going to do? We will become completely isolated, without friends in other parts of the world, out numbered. We better wake up and start making friends and show other nation that they got us all wrong, that we care what they thing and we want to learn and play ball with them. Don't count on Britan and our now friend, it's prime minister, Tony Blair, if push came to shove, Britain been in that part of Europe is not going to endanger itself to come to our rescue. If we stay the same and listen to no one but ourselves we will find our country without a friend in the new geopolitical future world.

Hi, sorry me again. I'm finding your writing fascinating.
Just to say there are now 27 Member States in the EU so all 27 flags are flying.
Gordon Brown is the UK Prime Minister - he visited the US a few weeks back but you might not have noticed because the Pope visited at the same time.
Your flag does not fly outside the EU institutions buildings for the same reason as India and China's flags are not there - you are not members.
But the last paragraphs where you are looking to America to be less isolationist are really interesting. Despite whatever parallels you might try to draw with the Roman empire, Europe is not a military state conquering by force (with the solidly neutal position of several Member States the military capactiy is limited and operate as peace keepers as in Kosovo - NATO is still the predominant military alliance for most EU member states).
Most of the populations of the EU Member States are not looking for the EU to be a superpower (the surveys that demonstrate this are called eurobarometer). but they do see a coherence of values and benefits in trading and acting together. As you rightly point out, the UK is part of the EU.
And EU leaders generally do not want America to be isolated either but part of a thriving world community.
So who, in accordance with your title, is The Beast?
