Gird up your loins now, like a man; I will question you, and you tell me the answers!
Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
Do you know how its dimensions were determined, and who did the surveying? Who determined its size. What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone?
Who decree the boundaries of the seas when they gushed from the depts? Who barren them by limiting their shores, and said, "Thus far and no farther shall you come, and here shall your proud waves stop"!?
Have you ever in your lifetime commanded the morning to appear? Have you ever told the
daylight to spread to ends of the earth, to end the night of wickedness?
Have you entered into the sources of the sea, or walked about in the depths of the abyss?
Have the location of the gates of Death been shown to you? Tell me about it if you know.
Where do light come from, and how do you get there? But of course you know all these!
for you were born before it was all created, and you are so very experienced!
Bible: Book of Job Chapter 38

Notes:
The LORD enters into a debate with Job and addresses two discourses (Job 38-39 and Job 40-41) to Job, in which he speaks of his wisdom and power, which are altogether beyond the capacity of Job, who therefore should never dare to demand a reason for the divine actions.
