Leviticus

What does that word or name means which is found in the Bible: The ancient Greek translators used the name "Leviticus" and bestowed it on the third book of the Pentateuch. A good part of this book refers to the priests of the tribe of Levi. It consists of sacrificial and other ritual laws which were prescribed for the Continuing the legislation given by God to Moses at Mount Sinai. Consisting of  almost entirely legislative in character is Leviticus; subordinate to the main legislative theme are the rare narrative portions.

The chosen priest of the tribe of Levi were to keep themselves in a  state of legal purity. In order to teach the Israelites laws were given to them. This book was an excellent instrument to maintained and keep external sanctity as a sign of their intimate union with the Lord. It taught the chosen one to learn and keep the "You shall be holy, because I, the LORD, am holy.

Leviticus is divided into: Ritual of Sacrifices (Lev 1-7), Ceremony of Ordination (Lev 8-10),
Laws regarding Legal Purity (Lev 11-16),Code of Legal Holiness (Lev 17-26) and Redemption of Offerings (Lev 27)

Notes: Why was it so important for these rules to be observed? Possibly due to the special status of Levi priest within their tribe. The reputation, respect and responsibilities of these chosen men was very high. There were no if, buts, maybe or whatever to excuse any breaking of the laws. This was a very grievous and dangerous crime against the chosen title of Priest.
It was dealt with it extremely harsh. These men were separate for God and to God they owed there perfect lives.

You can't have a high office priest behaving in sordid and sinful ways. As of today you have all kinds of high office church preacher or priest committing the most sinful offenses and been protected by the church. That kind of behavior shows up their evil corruption and what God they truly serve which is not the God of moses. Their church and their titles are more important that the truth of God.
