 Blood Sacrifice
The LORD called Moses, and from the meeting tent gave him this message:
"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any one of you wishes to bring an animal offering to the LORD, such an offering must be from the herd or from the flock.

"If his holocaust offering is from the herd, it must be a male without blemish. To find favor with the LORD, he shall bring it to the entrance of the meeting tent

"If his holocaust offering is from the flock, that is, a sheep or a goat, he must bring a male without blemish.
Bible: Leviticus  Cp: 1 (portions)

Notes:
Today, we think of blood sacrifices associated with evil witchcraft of some sort of satanic rites.
But in the time of Moses it was an atonement for their sins.  Men/women sins were so grave in the face of God that forgiveness from a holy God had to be extreme measured. Men since the birth of Cain, first born of Adam and Eve, who in jealousy killed his own brother Able, have been killing each other and atrociously spilling human blood.  The blood cries out to God from the ground which is has been violated by its spillage.

All those sacrifices came to an end with the ultimate sacrifice to end all sacrifices. The "Lamb" of God, who takes away the sins of the world.  With the sacrifice of his only son Jesus, who willingly died for us all, the animal sacrificial practice came to an end. There was no need for any more animal killing for the forgiveness of our sins.  Now, all we have to do is claim the blood of Jesus Christ as the payment and we are forgiving.
From the herd or from the flock: the only animals which could be used as sacrificial victims were either of the bovine class (bulls, cows and calves) or the ovine class (sheep and lambs, goats and kids). Excluded, therefore, were not only all wild animals, but also such "unclean" domestic animals as the camel and the ass.

Holocaust: from the Greek word meaning "wholly burned," this is the technical term for the special type of sacrifice. The primary purpose of this complete gift was to render glory and praise to God.
