The Hebrew Bible go back very far into ancient times, some to before 1,000 B.C.E. Some ancient text were transmitted orally for a time. But the danger of loosing these text prompt them to put them in writing. The materials in which they were written were perishable and the texts wore out and had to be recopied. Some ancient texts lost to the world were "Book of Yashar" or the "Book of the Wars of the Lord". Sadly to say a lot of meaningfull books of knowledge did not survive. A group of special men were assigned to the task of recopying texts. These were called the scribes. These men were not mindless robots hand writting important texts, neither did they copy a document so that it would be put away to be saved. Their texts were repeatedly within their own time because it was they were used in their daily lives.
Some of their text rewritten were stories of ancient heroes, heritage of families and record keepings of temples and sanctuaries, prophecies, speeches and so on. These text became preserved by rewritting. The ancient Israelite society used acribes the way we today use the copy machine. Through time a different texture writting material was used to make the text last longer. If they wanted to write about the temple treasures like gold, money and other wealth the copper leafs were used regularly. Since it was difficult to add or change a text written on a copper leaf, many copper leafs had to be used in order to make any changes that had to do with the temple's wealth and properties. Only a handfull of these ancient copper leafs have been found in the dead sea scroll caves. There is evidence that tremendous wealth has been listed and the place of hiding, or safe keepping by Israelites and a list of the wealth or treasured buried still awaits to be discovered after 2,000 of been hidden. Authorities of the temple used the scribes to record all the treasuries of the temple on these copper scrolls. They were hiden because of the fear of having the treasures discovered and pilaged by invading armies attacking the land of the Israelites. The Israelites were attacked and conquered, some were killed others place in bondage and forced to leave their treasures behind.
Can you imagin finding such treasures in one of the hidden caves. There would be such a treasure hunting rush that would be mind buggling at the amount of people heading towards the caves. Such treasures are beyond purchases by any billionaire or any one person.
