I am in love with my new phone from Govios! If you guys have never heard of Govios it is a new cell phone company that provides superior reception and is conscious of the impact of cellular phones on the environment. I can use my phone when others have no signal and I love the fact that Govios promotes the recycling of cellular phones and batteries.

I learned from visiting Govios.com: “One discarded cell phone and its battery can contaminate as much as 40,000 gallons of groundwater or a lake covering 26 acres.”  What does this mean to you and me?  For starters, according to researcher Strategy Analytics,”1 billion cell phones will be sold worldwide this year.  Subscribers tend to get new phones every 13 months.”  This means that there will be almost 500 million cell phones thrown away within the next two years and each year thereafter. In ten years there will be over 5 billion cell phones tossed away.  Each phone contains a battery that is made up of Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Lithium Ion, and Small Sealed Lead.  Batteries that end up in landfills and incinerators eventually leak into the environment and end up in the food chain causing serious health risks to humans and animals.

It is so sad to me that more companies are not taking the steps that Govios has to ensure that their impact to the environment is controlled, but I am glad that as a consumer I have the choice to do business with a company like Govios.
