open letter to the person who stole my bike

Dear Mr., Mrs. and/or Ms. Thief (or Thieves)

I hope you are enjoying my Black Specialized Mountain Bike you decided to swipe sometime between this morning and yesterday morning. I hope you enjoy how when it rains water doesn't splash up on you because of the plastic fenders I bought for it. They were the cheapest ones the bike shop had, but trust me after biking literally over a thousand miles in water, and slush, I know how unpleasant it can be to have one's pants and shirt full of cold water and dirt. In addition, I hope you enjoy a feeling of safety the rear light provides. At night people driving behind you will notice you're there and won't hit you when you're riding in the dark. I biked enough times on poorly lit country roads to assure you that when you have that light on people won't hit you. Sadly, since you did cut the lock I bought for my bike this does mean you'll have to buy a new one, so hopefully you have a job so you can actually afford one, because I'm sure you're aware that you're not the only one stealing bikes. Unfortunately for you, I took my front headlight off before getting on the bus. Of course it did lessen the blow for me when I found out you stole my bike. That's one thing I don't have to buy, because I will have to buy a new bike as a combination of biking and busing was my only mode of transportation. I live 6 miles from my job and about 1.5 miles from the nearest bus stop, which wouldn't be that big of a deal if I lived in Madison, but I live in Verona so the bus only comes 6 times a day and stops running before my shift ends at work. Getting to college won't be too much of a hassle as the weather is nice enough where I can walk to the bus stop, however I am unsure of how I am going to get to work. Unlike some of your previous victims however (Disregard this sentence if I am in fact the first person you've stolen from, and let me apologize sincerely for being presumptuous) I don't have the money to just go out and buy another bike, nor can I just ask someone to buy me another bike as my family isn't particularly well off. As a full-time student who has loans and bills to pay, I have a difficult time making ends meet as it is, so having to buy a bike, a lock, and a rear light (rear lights are legally required) will make my life rather interesting. So again thank you for stealing my bike, I really didn't have enough on my plate as it was.

Sincerely,

A Disappointed Student

P.S. If you decide for any reason my bike just isn't working out, please send me an e-mail and I will be more than happy to make any arrangements necessary so I am able to take it back.
