IMHO, I would move with the adviser. Sounded like he's well respected in his field to get an endowed chair position. The company I work for was acquired by another and then merged with a third early last month. They announced my "re-assignment" (demotion) at the year end meeting and I began the new year at the new position working for someone I brought into the company. It sucks but I cannot quit like you (I do admire you for that) and now have to work a second job to make ends meet. I am doing sort of a diary blog on this site to see how long this would last.
