Practice tonight was so so. Yesterday was my day off for the week, and I probably should not have gone as far in the postures tonight as I should have. We did several things from the second series tonight with a focus on opening the backs of the shoulders/back of the heart. So many times I wanted to go into the back bending aspect of the asanas because I'm pretty open there, but Jen reeled us back in to focus on the shoulder part.
Several people who were in the Monday class I taught were in tonight's class. A couple of them thanked me after the class today. I even had one asked me if I were Matt, as if she had read/heard about me, and then asked me. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with being a known entity. The reality, as far as I understand it in my head, is that I am there to practice, and when I teach, it is simply to convey in an accessible and appropriate way, the things I have learned and experienced (as well as experience in the class itself). It's funny because I think I am far less of a diva as a yoga teacher as I thought I would be. I didn't wear the sheer, flashy tank tops that I usually wear when I practice, though I did wear my usual yoga shorts. On Monday, in fact, I felt that I was not giving enough instruction to the class at times (one guy asked me what the posture was, uttana padasana, because I said the sanskrit name and he did not know what it was). There's a really good group that goes to the Mon/Wed class.
