 One Messiah Two Commings?

By YWGO

The Promise of the Messiah

The Hebrew Writings (Old Testament) is peppered with direct and indirect foreshadowing’s of the “Messiah”. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ha Mashiach) often referred to the Scripture (the Law, the Prophets & Wisdom books) as evidence for His Messiah ship (Matthew 22:29 and John 5:38) . He clearly taught that they were all fulfilled in Himself (John 10:35; Matthew 5:17-18).

The Old Testament Scriptures clearly spoke of Jesus Christ as the Messiah. They point everyone to Him through many sources in the texts. The Apostolic Writings (New Testament) are written to express the fulfillment of what He accomplished in His Atonement work called Salvation. (John 20:31) We must never separate the two in our thinking or functioning as believers. We must see the Good news message contained in both section of OT/NT as an eternal document written to all whom will believe.

Messiah
*http://creationwiki.org/Jesus_Christ wrote that that “The name "Christ" is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means "anointed one," which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח, also written "Messiah". He is Jesus the "Christ" in Greek, or the "Messiah" in Hebrew who was long-awaited by the Jews.

Prophecy alludes to Messiah’s Identity and Name

The prophetic statements in the Old Testament announce hints to Messianic character types. They allude to identifying details of His character, times of His coming, other characters, and situations surrounding His death burial, resurrection and God’s divine plan. Furthermore, the Messiah is the focal point of the Old Testament meanings toward the belief that “God’s anointed One” would come to deliver Israel and the world from sin and restore the world in righteousness. He was promised from the Fall in the Garden through the ancient prophets and kings of Israel. The Messiah finally came into this world during the times of Roman Empire control of Judea (Isaiah 9:6, Matthew 1:21).

Many people do not understand the meaning behind His name in English or Greek. It is hidden unless they see the Hebrew meaning. The divinity and identity of Messiah is in His name.

These websites note the archaeology, definition, and history behind Messiah’s name, (Yeshua):
1. http://jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=52&letter=N&search=Yahweh#1642

2. http://www.fossilizedcustoms.com/yhwh.html

3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YHWH

4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh

These websites summarize that God has a scared name expressed in the Hebrew as( YHWH ). It is called the Tetragrammoton. It is also known as “Yahweh” with consonants added. This name was so sacred that, God, lord or elohim are used in place of it for expression. “Yah” is translated as part of Messiah’s name of Y’shua meaning “God is Salvation”. Thus, Messiah came fully in the name of the "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit".

Hence, only God can deliver His people from sin and rule over them. Notice in (Mark 11; 7-11) the people say, Blessed is He comes in the “name of the Lord”. Another example is when He forgave sins and people were healed. (Mark 2:5 and Luke 7:48) Only Adoni Elohim (God) can forgive sins. Many people awaiting the Messiah clearly understood who He was and the importance of associating with His name ( Acts 4:12 ). Everything about the Messiah was clearly fulfilled by “ Yeshua” of Nazareth which denotes where the Messiah prophetically came from. This is also why His disciples baptized believers in His name (Acts 2:28 ).

Messiah is the Son of God

Jesus explained He was the Son of God (Luke 20:41-44). Various scriptures note the Messiah as “The Son of God”. Many of ancient times whom were waiting for the Messiah used this term for the Messiah, or the anointed One that was expected to come. The Apostle John notes that He is the only begotten Son in (John 1: 17-18). Yeshua (Jesus) asked his disciples whom do men say that I am? Among many answers. Simon Peter was honored by Jesus for his answer. He stated that “Jesus was the Christ, Son of the Living God” (Matt. 16:13-17 & Mark 8:27-29). He also asked the healed man, did He believe in the Son of God, then notified him that He was “the Son of God” to which the man worshipped Him.

Another example is where Adoni Elohim (God) validates Jesus as the Son of God and fulfills Hebrew Prophecy.
(Isaiah 42: 1-4, Matt. 3:16-17, Mark 1:11, & Luke 3:22)

Jesus rebukes, teaches, and hints to Nicodemus that He is the Son of God in the 3RD Chapter of John. Notice the correlation of scriptures that Yeshua uses with being the Son of God: (Proverbs 30: 4 and Psalm 2:1-12)

The New Testament (Brit Chadasha) scriptures note that the early church taught that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Son of God and fulfilled the Old Testament scriptures.

(Acts 13:32-33 KJV) And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

(Hebrews 1:1-9 KJV) "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
*But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus." (Acts 4:27-30 KJV)

Messiah as God in the flesh

Isaiah 7:14 notes that His name will be “Emmanuel” meaning “God is with us’. This is the very central part of Christ’s witness to the world. He taught that He was “God in the flesh” and proved it. He accepted worship as an act of religious honor, not as earthly. The Scriptures, including Jesus' own teachings, would absolutely forbid this unless He possesses true Deity.

(NET Bible) John 5:22-23 Furthermore, the Father does not judge anyone, but has assigned all judgment to the Son, so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

(NET Bible) John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me, believe because of the miraculous deeds themselves...

(NET Bible) Matthew 14:33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

(NET Bible) John 9:38 - 9:38 He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

(NET Bible) John 20:28 Thomas replied to him, “My Lord and my God!”

(NET Bible) Matthew 28:9 But Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.

(NET Bible) Luke 24:52-53 so they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple courts blessing God.

(NET Bible) Hebrews 1:6 But when he again brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all the angels of God worship him!”

In these scriptures above, there is clear context that this type of worship is not talking about a human kingship. They refer to honoring Jesus as “God in the flesh”.

Messiah Shares Glory as God

In the scriptures God receives and deserves all the glory Isaiah 42: 1-6 and 48:11. The “Messiah” brings glory to Adoni (John 8:54). The glory Yeshua Ha Mashiciach (Jesus Christ) possesses is not only the glory possessed by men or angels. He is the only expressed image of the Father. His glory is listed as above hierachy of angels (Hebrews 1:3-13). Hebrews 1-2 chapters goes into great detail in explaining His position and answers whom Adoni Elohim (God) shares His glory with. Yeshua is above every principality, power, might, dominion, and every name that is named ( Psalms 110:1, Ephesians 1:21; Philippians 2:9-11).

This description of Jesus Christ’s’ Deity” alludes to the: “Oneness of His deity” or “Echad” in Hebrew- of Yeshua expressing “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” (YAHUSHUA or Y’shua”). His name displays the Oneness and Authority of His glorious divinity. (Matt 28: 18-19 & 1 John 5:7)

(NET Bible) John 17:5 - And now, Father, glorify me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created.

(NET Bible) Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

1 Corinthians 2:8 & James 2:1 – Yeshua (Jesus) is called the "Lord of glory," correlating with Adoni Elohim’s title as the "King of glory" (Psalm 24:7-10).

Revelation 5:12-14 – Adoni(Father) and the Lamb (Jesus) are praised. All created things give them "blessing and honor and glory and power."

This is straight forward evidence proving Jesus and the Father both possessed the same glory before the world began. Yeshua (Jesus) in going through the process of coming down to the earth realm as the suffering servant (Joseph) seemed to have type of limited glory in His appearance as a man. He did this in as part of His love for us in order to perform the Atonement mission (John 3:16, 19:30, & Hebrews 2:9, Philippians 2:5-11). As we read John 17. It is clear that Yeshua has glorified God in the earth and is preparing to receive “that greater glory” again in which He had given up to save us. In essence, Jesus possesses the Father’s glory and Deity.

Two Pictures of Messiah

There are over a thousand prophecies from the TANKH (OT) fulfilled by Jesus.
The Messiah (Mashiach) can be seen in Old Testament word pictures, types, or foreshowing in its writings. Some examples of this are:

• Adam- the 2nd Adam Conquering death and sin
• Noah- the builder and place of safety
• Melchilzedek-High Priest no beginning or end
• Isaac - The faithful Sacrificed Son
• Joseph - The Suffering Servant who brings
• Moses - The prophet and deliverer
• Exodus-Passover Lamb
• David - The awaiting Conquering King
• Solomon – The wise King who judges & prospers during “1000 year Reign’
• Nehemiah - The Rebuilder of our relations with God and life

There are two noticeable types of prophecy in the Hebrew Writings(OT) concerning the Messiah. One depicts Him as a humble suffering servant, Son and savior. The other presents Messiah as the Conquering king, Redeemer, and Restorer. The Bible is simply showing two photos of the Messiah in different stages of His mission given by Adoni Elohim.
Two characters in the Old Testament are used in scripture to note these photos of Messiah– Viceroy Joseph and King David. They are known as Ha Mashiach Ben David (Messiah the Son of David) and Ha Mashiach Ben Yoseph (Messiah the Son of Joseph)

An example of this is found when Yeshua (Jesus) read part of Isaiah 61.

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor……. and the day of vengeance of our God…

In Luke 4:18-20, Messiah read out loud from the Torah scroll, but stopped after proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour. He said this prophecy was fulfilled in Him, that day.

Notice that He didn’t quote the entire verse. Why? The ‘year of the Lord’s favour’ related to Jesus’ first coming and the later part of the verse related to related to His second Return as the “Vengeful Davidic King”. The problem with many people during those days is that they were looking forward to the political restoration of Israel. They did not include the aspect of mankind’s sin atonement that had not been dealt with (Matt 11: 2 and 16:21-23).

He constantly pointed to the facts of scripture that He was the Messiah whom would suffer as a sacrifice for their sins and repair the relationship with all of Adam’s kind. He preached this message to:

1. Preach to the Judah 2. Lost tribes of Israel 3. Gentiles

His Besorah (Good News) is one that allows the making of all people that believe in His blood sacrifice for them into a nation of people for the His Kingdom

Ha Mashiach Ben Yoseph makes Atonement

The OT character that needs outlining is the title Ha Mashiach Ben Yoseph (Messiah the Son of Joseph). It depicts the role: out of His suffering, He redeems and bring salvation to many people. Yosef (Joseph) was betrayed by his brothers, suffered, later exalted to authority, married a gentile, and made reconciliation with his brothers. This clear prophetic example for the foreshadowing of Messiah and His first mission.

The Atonement for Adam and Eve’s sin has always been first and foremost issue with Adoni. “First things first” is a modern saying. This defines the coming of Messiah’s first mission. He came to be the redeemer by being the final atonement sacrifices as required in Leviticus 17:11 (Isaiah 53:4-6, 10, John 3:16 & 11:49-52).

It must be noted that there is only one way for anyone’s sins to be atoned for based on Torah principals. Dr. Louis Goldberg notes in his book “Are there two Ways to Atonement?”, that substitution, identification, death, and exchange are vital for Israel’s atonement. He further outlines that the substitute atonement became sin and had to die.

Faith in God and the repentant heart had to also be given as outlined in Psalms 51 as a requirement for the sin to be dismissed. The Holy Spirit comes inside of the believer to help them keep a good lifestyle of caddish (sanctification) in Yeshua’s name. Atonement is clearly not based on keeping traditional regulations, self help philosophy, nor good works. Biblical faith was acted out. It was not an “intellectual concept” associated with continual backsliding.

Just as Adoni covered the sins of Adam and Eve with some type of clothing, He uses the same concept by erasing the believer’s sin debt based on the blood of Yeshua as our High Priest (books of Hebrews). He sees us as Christ in His righteousness.

Isaiah 53rd chapter is a snapshot of the Messiah’s mission that was fulfilled by “Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth”. Obviously, it’s not talking about a nation redeeming themselves whom are in sin. That view would be against Torah standards of atonement. Israel and the world needed a sacrifice for their sins. Only a sinless person could be that sacrifice. Yeshua or ‘Salvation” is His name for our atonement (Isaiah 62:11).

John the Immerser (Baptist) called Yeshua the “Lamb of God” noting His first mission on earth during that time period (John 1:29). After fulfilling His mission, He reminded his Talmidin (Disciples) again of the Messianic prophecies in the TANKH (Luke 24:44-49). Therefore, He is rightly called the “Redeemer” or “Savoir” for setting many free, even to this day.

Ben David the Messiah Returns to Rule 1000 years

When we think of Messiah Ben David, it must be understood that His 2nd Return is based on a God like appearance like none ever witnessed. “Everyone will see” Messiah come in the clouds after a period of tribulation. This time period of Hamh Tsrah(Great Suffering) for mankind will be under a false Messiah and his religious kingdom (Revelations 7:14, CH 12, Matt. 24:15, Luke 21:22/ Dan 7;24-25, 11:36-37, John 5:43, Matt 24:21, 2 Thess. 3-4, Rev.12:13,13:1-2,11-18). Messiah Ben David will take swift revenge on Satan and all of Israel’s enemies called the Day of vengeance, thus completing the Isaiah 61:1-2 passage not read.( Zech 9:14-17, 12:1-9,14:3-5, Isaiah Rev. 17-21).

Many were expecting a political peace, earthly king, and racially physical restoration when He 1st came as Messiah Ben Yosef, the suffering servant. The scriptures clearly taught of a spiritual deliverance from sin for the whole world, not only Israel.

The restoration of Israel is the re-establishment of the Davidic Throne for Jew and Gentile believers in Yeshua HaMashiach whom is the Messiah Ben David. (2 Samuel 7:11-16,  I Chronicles 17:10-14, Jeremiah 23:5, Dan 7-13-14, Isaiah 9: 7,11:1-5 &16:5, Matthew 1:6, Luke 1:32, Acts 13:22-23, Romans 1:3-4). This is the "Kingom" Christ refers too for all beleivers. This will not be an earthly Kingdom, but pertains to Heavanly rulership of Earth.

The Davidic Covenant presents 4 eternal promises from God Elohim:
  • Eternal dynasty
  • Eternal kingdom
  • Eternal throne
  • Eternal King
The only person that can fulfill this qualification is God who is eternal. The Seed of David- “Messiah” is eternal. He is King of Kings and given a Kingdom which has no end.
(Isaiah 9:6-7, Jeremiah 23:5-6, 33; 14-17, Amos 9:11-12, Luke 1:32-33).

He will reunite the “kingdom of Israel” as a "set apart nation" and establish Jerusalem as the center for the world for Torah ministry and government. (Isaiah 2:3-4 & Jeremiah 3:18). This will all correlate with the sign of Messiah-6th Seal of Revelations (Matt 24:21-30, 1 Thess.4:16, Rev.19:11-16). It will mean, upon His return, on the “Last Day”, the dead and living believers will be changed into the eternal likeness of Messiah (1Cor. 13:12, 15: 52, 1 John 3:2-3). Gentiles will be “joined” with Israel in what is termed as “Zion”. Jews and Gentiles will be of one Eternal House and heritage (Ezekiel 37:15-23 & Revelations 7&14, 20:6, 1 Pet 2:9 Romans 11, 1 Cor 12:13, Ephesians 4:4-6, Galatians 3:28). This heritage and house is based on the promises in the Torah, regarding Yehsua, God’s people, and land (earth).

Messiah’s return means a Covenant of peace. It finishes what Adam and Eve failed to do in Adoni’s righteousness. The earth will be a beautiful garden. There will be righteousness, holiness, peace, security, joy and gladness in Messiah’s reign. (Isaiah 32:16-20; 35:5-10; 51:3; 55:12-13 & 61:10-11. Jeremiah 23:6) This is His Millennium Reign of Peace or Sabbath Rest. After this period, there will come another Satan lead rebellion where He and all those whom are deceived will be finally destroyed (Isaiah 66:22, Rev. 21:1-7).

Conclusion

It is very obvious from the Hebrew and Apostolic writings (OT &NT) that Messiah is:
• Yeshua “God is Salvation”
• God’s anointed One
• Son of God
• God in the Flesh
• Suffering Servant
• Redeemer Savior
• Permitted Image of God”
• Conquering King

Messiah’s Divinity or Deity:

• Possesses names used for “God”.
• Has personality and characteristics of man and God
• Performs work that only God can do.
• Worshipped and honored the same as only God deserves.
• Receives “Glory” like God and gives glory
• Will rule and judge the Earth as God and King

There are two issues that prevent understanding of whom Messiah actually is. One is the teaching that He is only the suffering servant that would not harm anyone and allows all to sin without consequence, when scripture clearly alludes to Him being a judge and keeping Torah standards (Matt 7 &25, Romans 6, Revelations). The other view teaches that He is only a Conquering King that will bring a political peace and worldly governance.

Many have missed the true Messiah ages ago by not seeing Him as the suffering servant. On the contrary today, so called Christians have also missed Him by teaching and practicing lawlessness. The same question He asked His disciples, whom men say that I am, is directed at us. Many have created their own sacred cow Messiah that has nothing to do with the living “scriptural Messiah”.

Since the days are rapidly approaching the close of this age and the beginning of a New age ruled by Yeshua Mashiach (Act 17:30). Which Messiah have you chosen to submit too? I implore everyone to believe and accept the only promised Messiah of scripture that came as a suffering servant in the flesh and rose from the dead as the conquering King that will come to fiercely judge all sinful people and the deceiving Antichrist (Satan) with destruction. We who believe in Messiah can look forward to perfect peace, restored world, and a New Heavens and Earth in righteousness with Adoni Elohim.

The right question in all of this is “Which Yeshua are you expecting today”? He said to the Religious leaders of His time, if another come you’ll receive him. Let’s make sure you know that the Son of God came, suffered and died for you and will come in the clouds after the post tribulation prophecies where the dead will rise and those who remain alive in the faith will see Him and be changed. Let’s not be deceived. If you have not received the One that came two thousand years ago and surrendered your life, say this prayer:

Dear Yeshua, I am sorry for my sins, I turn away from sin. I believe that you are the only Messiah-Son of God, who suffered, died for me on the cross, and rose from the dead. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Thanks for writing my name in your Lambs book of Life. Heal my life. I commit myself to you. Help me to find a Bible believing fellowship for baptism and discipleship. Amen
