Today is all about politics and young people. It seems for two reasons there is a HUGE disconnect in this current election.
The first is Politictians themselves. They go on and on about how they need to engage the youth of America, yet they dont seem to value us as much as they say. This comes from a few experiances, from the major candidates (Hillary, Obama, McCain, Romney, etc) avoiding speaking at any but the largest and most presitgouse universities. You rarely see them out at a small school, or at a university other than the ones hosting major level debates. Even after hosting a major national event (College Convention 2008), which last election drew every major candidate running, New England College, was visited by very few major candidates. The only one in fact was former Mayor Rudy Guliani. Though at the Convention, which drew delegations from as far away as FL, and CA, NONE of the major candidates attended. Rudy himself was even staying in the hotel where the Convention was staying, and the campaign staff was quoted as saying "The College Convention was not a high enough priority". Why is this??
The other indicator of the youth not being involved is the attitude that is shown toward the issues that the youth faces. Things like the affordability of education, and minimum wages are barely even covered by the candidates. This is normally done as a side thought or an afterthought. It is proof that most polititians have no care for the youth and will not do much for the youth of America unless we stand up as a whole. It is time that the youth speaks out and becomes involved, no more stading idle. It is time we protest again, take all our energy that is invested into things like this blog and get out there and protest. The youth got so much done in the 1960's and 70's when they mobilized and protested....so it is time we do it again!!! Lets get out there and PROTEST, show the polititians that we will not take the bull shit anymore and protest and VOTE as well...dont be afraid, JUST DO IT!!
