 Warning: May cause laughter
It was one of those moments I would never forget…There was a lesson to be learned here! My body was flushed with embarrassment as I grabbed a hold of my margarita glass and pulled it close to me taking a sip…and dang-it I was going to learn it…I never wanted a moment like that to happen to me again…it was hilarious though.

A few hours earlier my best friend Amy and I who were also roommates at the time, were getting all dolled up for a night on the town. She had requested my company to go meet a friend.
A friend whom she called a friend but was in hopes he would be the one.
She had met him online and he was driving an hour south to meet her face to face.

“You have to go with me Ki.” She cried out. “I just can’t go by myself. What if I don’t like him and need to get away. Or what if he tries to kill me..” She was laughing and begging me at the same time.

“Well hell, what makes you think this guy won’t try to kill me too?” We laughed again.

I’m not a fan of dating websites, but Amy was. I think they are very dangerous if you aren't careful. But I knew she wanted to meet this guy whom she had been talking about for a month or so. I didn’t want to let her down. I wanted her “date” with him to be everything she wanted…so I agreed to go under the condition that if I wanted to leave and felt she was safe, then I had no strings attached and would be able to depart at any moment I felt the need.

“So where are we meeting him?” I curled my hair and yelled into the other room.
“The Mexican restaurant” She yelled back.
Great! I thought! Margaritas! Chips and Salsa!

Arriving at the restaurant Amy was nervous and giddy.
“What’s the signal?” She asked while putting the car in park.
“You mean if you don’t like him and want to leave?” I asked.
“Yes…we have to have a signal or something”
“Oh, well, umm let’s see…tap my leg twice…yes tap my leg twice meaning…lets…go.” we laughed even more at ourselves. That was so lame, but we were using it.

She called his phone.
“hey…we are here…have you made it?…uh huh…okay then see you in a minute.” She closed her phone…
“oh my god, he’s inside! That means we have to make an entrance!”
“Let’s go…you’ll be fine. Just remember two taps on the leg” I tried to calm her down.
We shut the doors and went inside.

I had called my boyfriend earlier to let him know the details of this date situation in case dude tried to get silly and whack us to pieces.

What is this? I thought as we approached the booth he was sitting in. There were two guys…not one. Damn how many dates she make tonight. The guys sat across from each other looking very nervous and scooted towards the wall. That must be  a city mans way of offering a lady a seat I thought.

Her guy introduced himself then turned the attention to his friend.
“This is my friend Matt. I brought him in case you didn’t show up!” We all laughed. Oh how cute I thought as we all shook hands.
“This is my friend Ki. I brought her in case you tried to kill me!” laughter again…
Oh how funny she was. And very blunt. That’s a Boston girl for you.

I knew most of the Mexican men that worked there. We often had margaritas before we went to a club or to shoot pool. A few of the men passed by quickly Some yelling out, “Hot Plates, Hot Plates!“ then smiling and saying there hellos.

“Welcome back! You eat?” The Mexican manager said as he stopped at our booth.
“Yeah we are going to eat here in a bit.” I replied.
“You margarita?” He asked.
“Yes! Absolutely!”

He yelled over at the bartender a list of our drinks.
Minutes later after hearing the details of how old Amy’s friend was and where he grew up, things of that nature I slowly sipped on my margarita wishing the best for her.
His friend matt and him were extremely funny and they thought we were as well.
We were becoming louder and what would be a perfect commercial for E-Harmony.

The place was packed. Very crowded. Our waiter brought another beer for Matt. As he set it on the table, me being the nice person I am, I was going to hand it to him. The waiter quickly ran off. It was a drive by beer drop off.
I reached for the bottle…and suddenly…it fumbled around my finger tips…I tried so hard to grab it, but my fingers pushed it to the floor.

Oh! Oh no!

Glass shattered on the ground. No one in the room seemed to notice but us. We laughed as I removed myself from the booth to start cleaning up the mess I just made.

The Mexican waiters running around servicing their tables. So busy they didn’t notice me on the floor like a little kid cleaning up the mess. I looked up to my left and there walking by me was a very handsome Mexican.
For a moment I was lost in awe at how cute he was. He was smiling at me. He had never waited on us before I thought to myself as I smiled back, my face still hot from laughing at my clumsiness.

“If you can get me some napkins I’ll be more than happy to clean this up” I asked him as everyone in the room seem to get quiet.

“Who? Me?” he laughed….
“yes, you…” I joked. I’m looking at you, of course you…silly.

“I don’t work here.............” He chuckled and I watched him sit down at a table full of Mexicans as they all began to laugh at me.

Damnit Ki!

My friend, and newly met friends laughed with what seemed to be everyone in the restaurant. . . Even me. You crazy girl I thought.

Now my face was a volcano ready to burst….

I reached towards Amy’s leg…and tapped it twice…still laughing..

Great story! At first I thought you were just embarrassed about spilling your beer and, since I do that all of the time, I was thinking "no biggie. shit happens" but your other mistake was priceless - glad he took it in good spirits. Nice story telling.
