Chapter Three
When Rell arrived at church Sunday morning, Morgan noticed how he glanced at her body from top to bottom very quickly. Following behind him was his two small children Dylan and Cody who were twins. They were going to be two years old come spring. Everyone stopped and starred when they came into the foyer. Everyone loved the boys. The older ladies in the church would always talk about how they looked just like their father and how blessed him and Kate were to have such handsome boys.
Where is Kate? Morgan wondered as she tried not to be obvious to Rell about looking for her. She not making it today? She sick? She find out about them?
Most importantly where was Claire? Claire was their 12 year old daughter who they had adopted when she was just three days old. Morgan loved Claire. She was so full of life. So smart and beautiful. She carried herself so much older than she was. You wouldn’t be able to tell she had been given up by her mother by the way she composed herself.
Claire? Where was she?
Morgan straightened the Sunday bulletins turning away from the boys as the wobbled by her.
The piano started playing and Morgan made her way to the nursery.
“Morgan..” She heard her name being called from Rell and turned to look at him.
“Yes?” She smiled as she waved at Mrs. Warren the pastors wife.
“Mind taking the boys on back there? I have to run back to the car for something?”
“No, not at all. C’mon you guys. Want to go play with the veggie tales” She reached out her hands for them and they came right for her.
“Where is Claire?…and Kate?”
“Claire wasn’t feeling well so Kate stayed home with her.”
“I’ll see you after the service” he turned and walked away leaving her feeling neglected. She was tired of not being able to express herself with him unless they were behind closed doors and in a hurry.
Ten minutes after getting the boys and other children settled with playing with the toys Morgan turned to Sara another nursery worker.
“I’m not feeling good. You think you can handle it today by yourself? If not I understand.”
Sara picked up a stuffed animal off the floor and tossed it into a toy bin.
“Sure. You do what you need to, I’ll be fine. We are missing half the children today anyway. We’ll be fine. I’ll say a prayer for you.” She walked over and hugged Morgan.
When Sara had mentioned she would pray for her, Morgan actually started feeling sick. The past few months of her lying more and more this was a sign her body experienced. But she couldn’t tell everyone how she had been living her life. She just couldn’t.
Quickly grabbing her purse and hurrying out the door she wondered what Kate would say to her when she got to her house.
