-we may bend but we don't break-
I recall the summer being hot. My sister and I had to mow yards around town for money although we never got to keep it. One lady would stare at us through her window of her big white house with big green shutters. She was old and frail. She would offer my sister and I water. I always took her up on her offer, my sister did never did.
Ann, my sister was five years older than I.
Always looking up to her for guidance and love. Our second mother had arranged these yards to be mowed. We were dropped off with the riding lawn mower, push mower, weed-eater and the big tin gas can. Then off my second mother, Kay and her husband Harvey went.
I used to daydream they wouldn’t come back for us and we would once again get new parents. And sometimes I could daydream the silliest things such as them going door to door looking for us more yards to mow.
Now, mind you, he was a coal miner and she was a nurse. We were not hurting for money. If that were the case I would have been more eager to help out. Like I said earlier, my sister and I never seen any money for our hard work.
When one house was finished were went to the next carrying and stacking our tools together. Since Ann was older she was able to ride the lawn mower. But she kindly placed the rake and can on the side of it, Holding onto it with one hand so it wouldn’t fall off. sometimes the weed eater would be thrown across her legs as I followed behind her pushing to push mower across town. The sweat would burn my eyes and Ann’s shirt was soaked within minutes of us starting our mowing duties.
By the time we finished the three or four yards someone would either pick us up or we would head over to our grandmothers home. (my real mom’s parents)
On this particular day we were done with all the yards and headed to our grandmothers house.
Ann would turn back to see how far behind her I was.
“Hurry” she yelled.
“I am! This is not easy. You get to ride while I push this mower. Give me a break” I yelled back as I pushed the mower with both hands, my head dropped down between my arms, my legs way behind the rest of me.
“Hurry! Oh no” I heard her say again.
I looked up and seen a car coming our way.
It stopped and I could see Ann talking to the driver. She was talking quietly and I could tell she was being shy. When I got closer I realized she was talking to most handsomest boy in town. His name was David Wingo. His dark hair was fixed perfectly.
When I finally made it to her he smiled and said, “you girls have fun” and he laughed. And so did Ann.
He drove off and we continued on.
Ann started mumbling.
“What?” I asked
“God that was so embarrassing. I can’t believe he seen me on this riding lawn mower looking like this.” She whined.
“What’s the big deal? I’m sure he has to mow yards too!”
“Did he look like he was mowing yards?” she snapped back. My sister was so funny. I loved her then started feeling her pain. She liked that boy. She had for a long time. That was the day I found out about reputations. Who has good ones and bad ones by what you do.
“You want him to be your boyfriend?” I asked.
“God, I wish” she said as we still trotted along. The way she said it, I knew that she really did wish it in her soul.
A few weeks later David and his girlfriend died in a car accident on their way home from an amusement park.
My sister Ann would never be the same.

Good development in the beginning. Ending was a little too abrupt though.
Also, develop the part where your sister meets with the boy at the car.
Talk a little bit about the accident, what happened, how did it happen?
Then, develop your sisters feelings after the accident. Did she go to the funeral,
how did she act differently afterwards. These things would really enhance the story.
All in all pretty good.
Keep writing...

Thank You! I'll see what I can do...the ending was actually going to be a part of my next blog, but had to get going to pick up my daughter from school and didn't feel like saving as a draft. I find that if I save things as drafts and don't post right away, then, well, I don't end up posting it afterall. I need to find some kind of medium. Balance would be good.
You are great! Thanks again!
