Lewis Carroll often photographed young children. Alice Liddell was one of them. Alice is also who was blessed to hear the made up nonsense story from Lewis which he later named, "Alice in the Wonderland"on a trip one summer. She liked it so well she asked him to write it down for her. It isn't the story that really captivates me...it was his desire to photograph young children. Also the history of how Alice's family became distant from Lewis who was once considered a family friend. It is believed Alices mother tore up many letters that were written by Lewis to Alice.
What Happened?
Oh Alice
So it goes like this little miss
You’ve come and gone. Here today, gone tomorrow kind of thing.
Here there then everywhere, but not here now. No.
Leaving unanswered questions for the minds of wonder
No pun intended with the wonder part.
He taught your family the game crochet and told you stories, but did you like him?
Or just the stories?
But with Mr. Carroll we know there was more
There had to be…it’s right in our face but we just can’t see it
Just one word please, you can tell us.
The pages are gone…ripped away…just as you!
It’s just not reasonable
It’s an anomalous feeling not knowing the truth about you…the whole truth that is…and him.
Was he considerate when he would photograph you? Did you fear his charming attitude?
Are we mistaken that he may have loved the idea of your innocence?
