Toxic People
One of my New Years Resolutions was to eliminate as many of the "toxic" people in my life that I could.  Sadly that's a bit harder than I had first anticipated.  I think my best friend could be one of those toxic people.  She is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO negative, about everything.  I could tell her something and she'll find something negative about it.  I'll say - "Wow it's a gorgeous day", and her reply would be something like, "Enjoy it while it lasts it's going to be rainy and stormy tomorrow".  She has had some serious depression problems before.  Back in 2000 or so she wrote a letter to her children and was prepared to kill herself.  I found out about it and I took her to a hospital and she swore she would take her medication.  Everything was/has been hunky dory until a few months ago when I found out she had fallen again into a deep pit of depression.  Thankfully she's back on her med's but she's so incredibly unhappy.  She is mean to her husband - she can't find much happiness with her kids (they irritate her too much), she hates working here.  Just everything is always so doom and gloom.  I am to the point where I want to scream in her face to SHUT UP!  I mean really.... none of this is necessary, not everything is a consipiracy towards you.  LIFE isn't THAT BAD.
Here's a prime example... we had a company wide email go out to all of us here is what it said.

************************************************************ ****************************************
From:  HR Department
To: All Users

FYI - yesterday, we had a vehicle stolen out of our parking lot sometime during day. We have had a couple of other incidents recently with vehicles being vandalized in the parking lot. We should all make sure that we lock our cars when we park and try to keep any packages, briefcases, etc out of sight that might tempt a would be thief. In addition, if anyone sees a stranger in the parking lot, please report it to someone in the toolroom immediately.

Thanks

So my best friend (who works with me) sends me an email and this is what her's says:

From: (my best friend)
To:  Me

that email made me angry at working here and gives me another reason to actually look elsewhere. I think it is a stupid email that will only have the men force us out of our parking slots close to the front and we will never have any type of security with marek brothers.

PS:  they found his truck, it was dumped in an apt complex and most of his stuff is still inside.

************************************************************ *****************************************
Ok now folks - where in the world did you all see that they would make us (women) park in the back so that the guys wouldn't have their stuff stolen or messed with?  Did anyone else see that comment from the HR email?  I sure as heck didn't.  GRRR GRRR GRRR

Ok I feel better, I've vented.

Well no one wants their stuff stolen. She took that email in a totally different context than it was intended... heck she went off on a totally different tangent.

my best friend is one of those people that if you've done it, she's done it better, if you know it, she knows more. I love her though...

I know just how you feel about your best friend being sooo negative. I have a close friend just like that. But worse than that. Whenever I share my problems with him, he would impatiently wait for me to finish and immediately discharge a volley of negativity and his own problems - my own problems just got pushed aside!

People in deep depression or a depression of any kind actually put everyone around them into a syndrome of sorts. I actually just wrote a paper on this for one of my classes. It is called Depression Fallout. Basically it is the effect the DSO (Depressed significant other) has on every one around them. It's interesting... But I like with someone who sounds just like your friend, you want to walk away but you feel guilty cause you know they have a sickness. It's tough to deal with, but kudos to you for wanting to cut back on the toxic elements in your life.

Oh I have the name of the books I read that might help you deal with her if your interested.

Sorry for your issues, but stay strong and true to you!!

Damn Whit. I can see why you want to scream. I feel drained just reading that!! It's sad that she is so unhappy that she is like that... but I also get why you feel it is toxic to you! Don't let her bring you down!
