I was 14 (1994) and was at my sisters best friends house. Brian (my now dh) called and told me that my boyfriend *his best friend* 'Bubba' was cheating on me. I asked Brian to bring 'Bubba' over to my sisters friends house (who just so happened to be Brian's ex-girlfriend) so I could break up with 'Bubba'. When Brian showed up at Bridgets house, I started laughing. He had a uni brow, acne, was super skinny and his clothes totally didn't match. I broke up with 'Bubba' and then we all hung out (hey I was 14). I remember Bridget telling me that day to please please not go out with Brian because she still cared for him... I was the girl that "stole" all her boyfriends. I told her not to worry because he was a dweeb.
Brian was 16 and had a truck and we'd all go hang out. I was still friends with 'Bubba' and we'd all go swimming at a lake, play pool - so forth and so on. Then one day 'Bubba' told me that before they went over to Bridgets house that day for me to break up with him, he (Bubba) showed Brian my picture and Brian said, "You're cheating on her?! I'm going to marry this girl". *pause for tender moment here*
So 'Bubba' kept telling me to give Brian a chance, because he really liked me.. etc I kept thinking um no, he's a dweeb, sweet but a dweeb. Until one day a new girl came into the group - Brian started to pay attention to her and less attention to me, not uh - I so was not having it. I still wasn't interested in him, I just didn't want him paying attention to someone else. Later on 'Bubba' made a joke about how it would be funny to call Bridget and tell her that Brian was my boyfriend. I'm like yeah that would be funny... so I called her and threw out how Brian was my boyfriend (vindictive much?) and when I hung up the phone, Brian was like... It's official then, I'm your boyfriend now. We've been together almost 14 years, married almost 9.
