 Anymore
My title is a bit obtuse, and that's ok with me.

I'm definitely in one of those contemplative moods.  I think about the things around me more, I listen more, and I think I feel more - though saying that I really could just be fooling myself.  Who knows?

I'm reading the book, 'A Better You' by Joel Osteen.  He's a Pastor here in Houston - most everyone has heard of him, he does conferences and things of that nature.  A really great speaker.  Anyway I'm reading this book and I'm trying so hard to change my life.  Change my bad habits... does the name James ring a bell?  Anyway, I'm trying to get rid of bad habits and so far so good.
Today at lunch however I did something that is so uncharastic of me that even I was taken aback.  We went to Olive Garden.  We sat there for about 5 or so mins before anyone came and got our drink order... I loudly declared, "Do we even HAVE a waiter?!"... at this point I'm a bit annoyed, we ONLY have a hour for lunch and the nerve of these people not jumping to take care of us.  There is a young guy dropping off salad and breadsticks to a table catty-corner to ours.  He turns and says, "I'll be right with you ladies" and he walks off.  Me being in a huff start saying, "Well he's going to get a crappy tip from me!" he comes back and I give him my order.... very bitchy like.
My friends and I started talking... well my best friend talked and I half assed heard her.  I was lost in my thoughts of how ugly I just treated this waiter, who is just doing his job.  Sure he was a bit slower than I liked, but really did that give me any kind of right to talk to him like I did?  No.  So he came back and I apologized.  He smiled and thanked me.  My best friend told me that she was proud of me... proud of what? That I owned up to an ugly thing I did?  The more I thought of it, the more I started to feel a little sick.  She wouldn't have said sorry.  She would have just given him a bad tip.

I don't know.  I don't know what I'm even talking about.  I think I'm blogging just to blog.  Who knows.

It takes a lot of courage to admit you were wrong. Especially on the little things it seems.

hi whit,
it might have been a bit bitchy - i mean, 5 minutes isn't really bad service and there are polite ways to call attention to the fact that no one's come by. but at the same time, if you're feeling bad about what you did, then it's GREAT to appologise and clear the air. and it doesn't have to do with what your friend might have done - it only has to do with your feelings about your own actions....
i say good for you, whit!
:o)
cheers!

Ya, I apologized to my store manager Perry, cause personally to me I felt as if I was lettin' my anger out on him, when in fact it was my supervisor and her supervisor who have issues with Perry...I was thinkin' he hasn't really done anythin' to me...

But, good for you Whits, I'm proud of you also. You probably made the day of that waiter, he'll always remember your face... :D and your apologie...:) xo

*HUGS* I'm proud of you too. Everyone gets testy about things and sometimes we say things we shouldn't , but you owned up to what you did and you apologize . It might seem like a little thing, but he might have been having a bad day too and your apology might have made it go just a little better. *HUGS*

What you did was Great!! really, never let what the people you are with dictate your actions. Unless it is like your grandparents and they are keep you from cussing and stuff like that lol. But you did what you had on your heart. and that was good, it's not easy sometimes.
NEVER EVER BE MEAN TO SOMEONE WHO BRINGS YOU FOOD!!! I can not stress that enough. Most people do not realize the searvers only make at least in the state od NC $3.12 an hour. Most places because that is the cheepest labor in the house will use their wait staff to do other things, make your salads, wash dishes at times, roll silver ware, prep the kitchen. If the place is not managed well then they could be out of alot of stuff, short on silver ware or what ever. The searver, not the cook, or the expo, or most times even the managers, get the heat for everything. If your having a bad day, it is taken out on them, if the kitchen is slow and having a bad night, it is taken out on them, if the expo keeps sending the wronge food to the wrong table, the searver gets killed for it. Now everyone in the place is makking a minimun amount of money. So after their day is done, they will have to tip out the buss boy for keeping the tables clean, someplaces even pay the buss boys only 4.00 an hour because by law they can if they make the searvers tip them out. The searver allso have to tip out the bartender, because they are makking their drinks. So sometimes up to 30% of their tips can be taken away per shift. Now your thinking, well they should work their a** off then huh, alot of times they are and we can not see it. Now granted I have been in and around that scean all my life... I can sit down and within 5 min tell you who is worth a crap and who is not. But like us they are people, with good and bad days. What you did, probably ment more to him than your tip. Again I comend you for that. I may blog some time more about this stuff... It is one of the few things I know alot about.
