I went to the store yesterday evening to get some of my favorite refreshment, outside the store was a little girl about seven or eight years old I would guess, with a box of kittens, I could tell she had been crying, her little eyes were all red, so I asked her much she was asking for them and she told me they were free, she just had to get rid of them because she and her family were living in their camper, I told her to wait a minute and went in the store got my goodies and came back out and she had this little orange kitten in her hands , I could tell it must have been her favorite one it looked like the runt of the bunch, anyway I told her I really liked the orange one and told her I would give her Twenty dollars for it. She told me no they were free, I explained to her that if she took the twenty she would know for sure it was really getting a good home, I could almost see the gears turning in her little head and she finally said OK, well I was walking off with my new kitten and trying to figure how I was going to explain to my wife why I had to bring another damn cat home, when this guy walking toward me said thanks for taking one of the kittens and she didn't really want to get rid of them, I told him well she had a pretty good story , I found out their Camper was broke down, their cat had kittens and they had been stuck out by the river for the last couple of months, and had just about run out of their savings trying to find work so they could get back on the road and head for Nevada where he Thought he could get a good construction job. I found out where they were staying at and went over to a friend of mine and was telling him about the guy, in the mean time his little girl had latched onto the kitten and it was no longer my problem..We went back to the store and got the guy and his little girl and took them back out to their camper, checked out his truck, found the problem a burnt out starter and the carburetor was leaking really bad, we went back to the shop and we scrounged up everything we needed, loaded the shop rig up and headed back out to the river, thank god for generators and work lights, we replaced the starter, put a new carb on it, new plugs, cap and rotor and plug wires and in bout two hours we were done. After all the thank you's I tried to give the guy some money to help get them on the road but they refused to accept it telling us we had already done enough. I told them I wanted to hear that truck one more time to make sure everything was right before we left,I got in and turned the key and it purred to life, getting out I dropped a hundred dollar bill on the console.. and we left.. I haven't felt that good in a long long time... |

Someone in threads recently asked to describe a hero and I did not know how to put it into words. Now I do: Wayne.
My friend, the world needs more people like you. You're not getting soft, you're doing what feels right. Thanks for the read.

Wayne, that is the sweetest thing I have heard in a long time. When you wrote the post about "how to be a jerk" not knowing you I assumed you were for real about it. Sorry I judged you. I can see now you have a good heart. As much as people don't want to hear about God I somehow think he placed you in the right place at the right time. It does feel good to give and be kind. It's a reward all in itself. People think being rude gives them power but the real power is in giving and love. God Bless You!

They will never forget your acts of kindness, Wayne and you will reap the rewards from this experience until you die...and maybe even after. You are quite a man.
