[I won’t bother to bore you with the events of yesterday (04-24-08)]
Well, well, well,
It seems I’m working today even though it’s a national holiday in Greece. Mag is home from work - automatically making my lesson SUCK.
I thought I’d try my luck by asking for half a lesson today - but she said no - maybe we can just work straight thru without a break. I foolishly agreed - I haven’t any really options here - I’m quasi-enslaved. My own choice though, I guess.
So, we got going just after 9am.
We started off with the Hey there Delilah song. She sounded as though she was going to cry the entire time. She had a fully defeatist tone and a 'face on' and I knew this would be one long & horrible day. We then moved to review stuffs for tomorrow’s exam.
By about 10:15 Mag joined us & within 15 minutes she was crying. Tanks a lot Mag - I wish you'd stay home more often. NOT.
Then she said that she wanted to go home. Or at least be able to go out.
(GREAT. ME TOO, LADY!)
We plugged along and then he tried to make her an open faced sandwich and hot cocoa (so that she would drink mild & eat meat)
When he brought them out she drank the cocoa & tried to wipe off some of the pâté meat from the bread & noticed that there was butter on the bread as well. Neither of us likes butter it seems. She complained to him about the butter & he promptly got up from his seat took the bread and dropped it back on the plate & skulked off to the kitchen. She explained to me what happened & then began to cry again. I decided to play one of the Kelly Family songs for her to cheer her up. those songs however are painfully slow love ballads and I hate those - I almost began crying - so I offered her Elton John instead, I’ve known since last year that she likes him - so I put on Your Song (by EJ) and she smiled a bit more then went to clean herself up in the bathroom.
When she emerged from the bathroom she walked into their bedroom where he was & they stayed in there for quite some time. I assume he was cheering her up. That would all be OK if I weren’t sitting out in the living room waiting to continue my lesson. I sat there for 20 minutes. I wrote this blog stuff & continued my quest for the Burning of Judas near downtown Athens. I also needed to put together enough pictures for the hobbies section of the exam.
When finally she returned we decided to review the exam topics in the form of free dialogue. And I showed her a few cartoons. The ‘GOOD IDEA-BAD IDEA’ clips from Animaniacs Cartoons. She found them to be quite hilarious and the play on words was good for her to hear the malleability of the English language. {http://youtube.com/watch?v=f8PhzrmBgMI} We continued and finished the lesson with her taking off for another 11 minutes bathroom break.
Nonetheless we ended shortly after 13:00 and I was free as a bird! A bird who is afraid to leave the apartment because it’s too cold out & she has no real place to go anyway. The point is I was FREE (until Monday morning) to do as I please. I emailed some friends to see if any of them would be free to do something this weekend as it will be my last weekend in Greece. I only heard back from Nikos but he was already heading out to his home village with a full car; or he would have invited me. Figures. So – I’m stuck in Athens with homework & exam planning. FUN, FUN, FUN! I cooked myself some lunch (enough for 3 meals), then I washed my hair and took a nap. When I woke up at 21:15pm I decided to stay in & get some work done. I had spent the last few weeknights doing precious little other than entertaining myself with youtube videos.
Tonight turned out to be worse. NOTHING of any worth was accomplished. Then I went to sleep. |
