Today was a nice easy day & lesson. We reviewed the exam that she took over the weekend took a 90 minute break and then, at her request, had free dialogues.
Between lesson sessions I received a text from Prince which read, in part, "...you are on my mind all the time...” Come on, Prince, how could I not be? Just kidding! I responded in kind and that was it for communication with him today.
SZ’s beau came in when we were about 30 mins from ending and gladly he stayed away for most of it. As we were finishing he came over and sat. He paid me a portion of the money and mentioned that I would receive the rest at the end of the month. I mentioned that there were two other ‘minor’ issues: the cost of the Visa and the mention of a little bit of spending money (made to me during one of our phone conversations). He said he had no recollection of the ‘spending $’ statement. And he asked why they should pay the Visa charge? Well, if I weren’t coming to Greece to teach SZ then I’d not have needed a Greek visa! They discussed it in Hungarian as I stood there with my English face on, waiting. They came to the decision that they will give me 50euros to cover the cost of the visa and that I can use that as my spending money. I’ve never wanted to smack him more. The visa is paid for – this money is not mad money – it’s to replace the $91.20 I handed over to the Greeks for them to permit me entrance into their country. (Clearly they don’t know how little I wanted to return.) He asked me if that was all right with me, so, I said I didn’t know what the exchange rate was and he told me to check it & get back to him. As I walked away, slightly pissed off, I couldn’t help but recall what my mom had cautioned me: Formulate a simple contract & have him agree to the terms in it. This would have saved me the ‘spending money’ issue. Why didn’t I listen to my mother?!?! Please don’t tell her that I said she was right; I don’t need that hanging over my head! Back in my boudoir, I checked the rate for the visa fee & it translated to 58.2euros. I won’t mention it until I’m leaving; I’m waiting to see if he offers to pay it again (Maybe I’m playing with fire on that one – we’ll see. But don’t worry; I won’t forget to tell him.)
In my bedroom, I emailed my poor goodly mother in multiplicity. My ‘free’ laptop skin was said to have been shipped out since 04-01-08 via some kind of UPS+USPS joint effort. There were complications is finding out exactly where the package was / is. My mom was patient with me and did all the phone work as I guided her remotely. Anyone who knows me knows just how short the ViK-fuse can but I maintained my cool as best I could and my mom was amazing through it all. (The skin should arrive this week). If you’re reading this, Mom: THANK YOU, SWEETUMS!!!
Most of the time in my room was spent blogging, eating almonds and doing crazy dancing & singing as loudly as I thought would not leave my four walls.
Then I ate the rest of my lunch for dinner. These crazy Hungarians don’t seem to eat dinner: a big lunch supposedly holds them over. Once in awhile they have fruit as a supplement. Maybe this is a good diet, but not for me, buddy! I need my three American meals to keep me fat & happy.
I messed about some more on the computer. I also searched for baby names for my amiga. SOLH (DARI) is the word for PEACE in Farsi. I love this name - I’m hoping she & her hubby agree; if not - I’ll name my child Solh Dari. No, I’ve not changed my mind - I still don’t want children - it’s theoretical...
Later I made it into bed by midnight.
