 May I Introduce myself?
Well I decided to start this blog mostly because of boredom at work from time to time and also for the fact that I don't know very many runners that are vegetarians/vegans, at least not where I live. Which brings me to who I am. I am Cassie. I am 23. I live in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN. I have been running since I was 14, but had to take a break for a 2 years because of a very annoying injury. I probably should have just ingored the Physical Therapist's, however, decided being lazy and drinking a whole lot (the injury occured just before my 21st birthday) seemed much more fun than perpetual training. So here I am, 30 pounds heavier, and out of shape, working to burn off the 30 pounds of fat the managed to slew all over various parts of my body and just recently a vegetarian.

I became vegetarian Christmas Day of 2007. Well, not a full-blown one...I still eat fish (which is known as a pescatarian). However, I am lactose intolerant as well. So...I am ALMOST a vegan that eats fish. Of course the occasional cheese, despite hating myself later for it, enters into my mouth. I am dating a meat-eater and it doesn't bother me the slightest bit. Several Veg-Heads say they could never date a meat-eater. But I am not here to judge or tell anyone else how to live their life, so I don't care. I live mine how I want to, and everyone else can do what they like. I don't give anyone crap about their eating habits, so please, don't give me crap about mine (that drives me nuts when people get instantly defensive about their meat eating, did I tell you to stop?).

I started to run again in the beginning of February of this year, I did 2-5K's and the Twin Cities One-Mile http://www.mtcmarathon.org/OneMile/index.cfm (mostly just so I could get guaranteed entry into the 10-mile) and am currently training for the Twin Cities 10-mile http://www.mtcmarathon.org/TenMile/index.cfm this fall. In my previous running life I never ran much more than a 10K race, so it should be interesting to see how I do! My goal mile time for the end of the year is somewhere in the 8:30's or 9's. I am currently running 9:30-10 minute miles. In my previous running life I ran 6:15 minute miles with several 19-20 minute 5K's, a PR of 5:33 in the 1600, 2:31 in the 800, and 19:23 in the 5K. Needless to say, 10 minute miles are not doing it for me!

My trouble with this is balancing vegetarianism, and lack of certain nutrients, with the hardships that running places on my body. I read all these articles about Vegans who are great runners and they say what they eat, but I am still struggling to maintain my energy throughout training.

Anyway, this entry is boring. The rest should be more exciting I hope. But I gotta go home from work now so, PEACE!
