10 Reasons why....
You are not that important!

Do you work with one of those people that think they are so important that the whole place will fall apart without them? And even though they’ve only “graced” the employment grounds a few months, think their importance is worth more than the air you breathe? As I see it, we are all replaceable. Think of all the jobs you’ve quit, and oh look at that! - The company didn’t fold. =)

Even though we all like to think we are integral to what we do, which we are for the time we are doing it, there is always a someone or even 20 someone’s out there who can do it better, faster, and stronger. A six-million dollar man for the job is just waiting to come in.

With that pointed out, here are 10 reasons why you are not that important:

1. You just aren’t, Einstein. No matter how you slice it, if you’re the one talking about how much you are whatever, then highly likely it’s not you.
2. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, left the t-shirt at the ex’s apartment, eventually used it to wash the car. Yeah, there was someone before you, and ‘holy cow’ there will be someone after.
3. The sun doesn’t shine out of your ass no matter how many keychain flashlights you can cram up there. In the nicest possible way, get over yourself. Lying about and getting away with your mistakes does not make you the better employee – or person, for that matter.
4. You don’t rule despite your old High School Yearbook stating otherwise. Actually, that false feeling of being ruler is the fact that no one can stand your narcissistic chatter and would rather avoid you than engage you in conversation.
5. Like OMG… IDK… MY BFF?... No offense, but kissing the boss’s ass and living your life around a cell phone and laptop does not make you important. It makes you a loser with no life.
6. Oh yes he did! And there is nothing you can do about it. Take the criticism and remember that not even whining to the ass-kissed boss will fix this one. Cos – all together now! - you’re just not that important!
7. Listen to me! Not to step on your toes….not telling you how to do your job….but you are! Important people don’t need to say that, but you do. Ever wonder why?
8. Arriving early/leaving late. Not necessarily something an important person would do. Actually, it’s the opposite. Peons on the other hand have to arrive early and leave late, generally, to accommodate the important people.
9. Vacation smacation. I can’t go on vacation, I’m too important! Um, yeah, important people go on vacation whenever they damn well feel like it. You are trying to keep number 3 covered by not going away. Big difference.
10. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Important people have earned this. You will never earn it.

Important means; being marked by or indicative of significant worth or consequence, valuable in content or relationship. If you want to be important, value and respect others, and they will do the same for you. Worth is not in the money you make or the job title you hold, it’s in the relationships you form and keep lasting. A job is a job, you can always get another one. A life alone and lonely, well, that’s not worth being important is it?

And dear reader, in case this seems like a jealous rant, it’s not. I know my importance, but I don’t have to run around telling everyone what it is.
