| My Interview with Blogger ThePortal |
It was my pleasure to be able to interview ThePortal. She was forthcoming and easily available to answer questions. I was delighted that she willingly agreed to be my first Blogger Interview here on Thoughts.com.
ThePortal started on Thoughts.com on September 26 of this year.
She has a strong assertive style in her blog posts of which there are
52 for public view at this time. Her blog is self described as taking
the mask off, being edgy, funny and vulgar.
Author's personal views: ThePortal is a woman of intelligence who will disarm some with her quick wit and more than straight forward approach. For others her strengths may be off putting but in the end she is contagious to read. It is this writer's belief that you can engage her in debates and she will be faithful to her stand until or unless you can give her something towards your point of view to sink her teeth into. And even then she will research the info/point of view to determine for herself what she can accept. It is her thirst for research and thinking
for herself that endears her to this interviewer.
ThePortal has a tough and tumble style that I have seen as assertiveness but she herself states others have called aggression. There IS a difference between aggression and assertiveness and the difference can be discussed in another blog post down the road.

Before we get into the interview questions with her answers I want to mention one other thing that I see as very important. Her comments are thoughtful and direct so if you happen to see her commenting one of your posts be sure to enjoy some back and forth with her.
Now here are the questions with her answers.
1) Please first share a little about you that maybe you have not posted
on your profile page. Maybe what books you read? Maybe about what
goals you have for yourself short term and long term? Maybe a little
about where you live?
I'm pretty much like an open book so there's not a lot that people don't know about me. I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have most of his books and I have a small collection of “How to write” books that I read when I need some inspiration for my writing. I'm not a big reader but more of a researcher. I look everything up on the internet from the common cold to the ebola virus. I'd love to write professionally and that's really my long term goal, short term is to get something published and hopefully that will happen soon.
I live in the capital of Canada and no that's not Toronto, it's Ottawa. It's beautiful and epic. I love how you can be in a big city but feel like you're in a small community.
2) When did you start blogging here on Thoughts.com and why?
I started blogging here a few months ago and I love it. I started because I wanted to get a lot of shit off my chest but that soon turned into just a way to have fun. I love making people laugh and I love making them think about things that they would never think about.
3) Have you ever blogged any where else on the internet?
I've blogged on a couple other sites but they just feel like a brick wall because you don't get that interaction from other users like here on Thoughts. I like the comments, I love the comments and people. It really makes a difference if you're posting just to post something or post and see people reading your stuff.
4) Describe your Blog?
I can't describe my blog in just one word. It's taking the mask off. It's edgy, it's funny, it's vulgar.
5) Have you ever met any Thoughts.com members face to face?
No. I've known someone. My partner used to be a member but I haven't actually MET anyone else. I'd like to though.
6) If you could ask other bloggers on Thughts.com your burning questions about them.... what questions would those be?
What do you wear to bed? Are you free Saturday night?
7) What questions do you wish others would ask you?
I don't have any. I wish people would stop asking me why I'm so aggressive. Haha.
8) What plans do you have for your blog in the next month?
I never plan my blog and I never plan what I write. I can't say it's going to be rejuvenated or less crass or more in your face. I take everything in the heat of the moment. I think it's just going to be more of The Portal and less arguing with other members.
9) Do you see yourself blogging here in 6 months? a year?
Absolutely. It's my poison. Writing is my life and I can't stop.
10) If you could share one inetresting thing about yourself with the
World of Thoughts that they might not yet know..... what would that be?
Why? Embellish please?
Sometimes I pick my nose. There you have it.
11) On privacy when blogging...... how much privacy do you think there needs to be
for you to feel comfortable in the Blogging environment on Thoughts?
I don't think anything is ever private online. I like how you don't have to display your email address or your real name. I like being totally anonymous and keep people guessing about if I'm young or old or male or female or gay or straight.
12) If you could add one tool to Thoughts blogging ~ any tool ~ maybe even one you have dreamed up ~ what would that tool be?
A chat room. I know that's lame and annoying but I think we could get a lot of laughs from that.
13) Do you share your Thoughts Blog with family? All of it? Only parts of it?
God no. Most of it is about them but I do share some of it with my partner and I tell her she can read it anytime.
14) What would you like other Bloggers to know about you and your blog here on Thoughts?
I'm not as aggressive as I sound but I hate ignorance. There's not knowing something just because you haven't learned it yet and then there's refusing to open your eyes and learn from other people. I want people to know that they can ask anything about me and I'll answer. ***
***Followup question was asked in regards to her stated aggressiveness altho this interviewer did reflect back with assertiveness instead of aggression and her answer was:
Assertive is a good word, I like that one better. No I haven't always been assertive and I think in coming to know my self in the last, probably three years, that's when I started. Past experiences always make you who you are so I can't rule out that. If I hadn't gone through all the bullshit in my life, I don't think I'd be as strong today. My assertiveness comes from being tired of being chained to the past. It's about moving forward and not letting the world walk all over you.
I want to thank ThePortal for allowing me to interview her and I wish her much blogging success here on Thoughts.com.
