Ah, the rant. It is a staple in the world of blogging and when done well, it can be a truly wonderful thing. We all have those little pet-peeves that nag at us. We all share your pain when you go into your feelings about that douchie ex-boyfriend who ruined your day with that late night drunken text message. We even identify with your negative feelings towards those pesky "ana", "mia", "suicide", and "cutter" bloggers. But well, may I just say that not all ranting is done "well" in these parts and at times, it is little more than an excuse for one person to bully someone else in order to momentarily lessen their own feelings of inferiority or inadequacy.
Still, there are some amazing ranters here. A good rant will have you nodding in agreement or laughing occasionally when you realize that even the annoying things in life have plenty of comedic value, depending on how you choose to look at them. I love to read a good rant, but I do not love to click on a post and see someone being targeted just for the sake of targeting someone and boosting another bloggers popularity at the expense of someone elses feelings. In that way, it's a fine line to walk, but with all of that said, I strongly believe in the right of each blogger to express their feelings on any given subject, regardless of how much I may disagree with what they have to say. Freedom of speech is sacred and should be respected for as long as we are able to have it.
I myself have been known to be an avid ranter from time to time, so I'm definitely not knocking it. To be completely honest, damn near everything and just about everyone annoys me. Doesn't mean I hate everything or everyone. Doesn't mean that I don't enjoy or appreciate all of the good things in my life, but I do try not to focus all of my energy on the things that make me want to stab myself (or someone else) in the face. For the sake of my own sanity, I try to keep my eyes on the brighter side of life.
I openly admit that I tend to swing back and forth between hating the world and loving it tenderly and with feeling. I'm your typical yin/yang sort of person. But although I may write about the things I dislike or disagree with, I will always try to temper my words with a bit of tact and understanding because I know all too well what it feels like to find myself at the butt end of someones joke of the day. Murphey's Law decrees that those things will hit you when you least expect it and unfortunately, it can often be the straw that breaks the camels back.
Then again, I'm enough of a pain in the posterior to also admit that I'll probably put someone off with my opinion here shortly, so with that thought in mind, I will bring this post to close before I become the very epitome of what I am attempting to disagree with. And I bid you all goodnight. ;)
Rant, end of.
