Why doesn't MIDOL run commercials during a football game?
When is the last time you saw a FORD commercial during a soap opera?
...or a FUBU clothing ad during the Nightly News?
When advertisers place their ads during specific shows or specific time-slots, they are telling us something.
MIDOL is implying that they don't think women watch football.
FORD is saying that they think men do all the car buying.
FUBU is comfortable incinuating that blacks don't watch the news.
Of course, in the above instances the advertisers are correct. Their decisions on when and where to place their ads are based on millions of dollars worth of research and, though their findings are never 100%, they are "representitive" of the majority.
Soooo...If it's OK for ad men to sterotype us based on trends, tendencies and typifications why is it a sin against humanity for airport screeners to base their searches on the same data?
If we are going to force our law enforcement and security personel to excercise "false objectivity" by searching 1 white for every black....1 christian for every muslim....1 female for every male, then I think the same rules should be applied for advertisers.
For every commercial that TIDE airs during the Dr. Phil Show, they should be forced to air one on ESPN.
For Every VIAGRA spot that appears during Monday Night Football, they should be required to air one during DANCING WITH THE STARS.
If we are gonna force politically correct, ecumenical, non-offensive protocol onto something as serious as national security then certainly we should force it on big business.
Oh...but that would impose on their profit now wouldn't it.
