| How things are answered....

Things dont always come in the packages we expect....
we ask for things in life... and then sit there wondering how come its not working out for us.... when in fact they have been there under our very nose.... we just didnt notice them.... because we didnt like their packaging..... :)
I asked to be able to help people.... and went out and volunteered with the one of the most respected organizations there is..... (not boasting here... there is a point to this.. read on....).... thinsg got complicated.... people in charge left... and were replaced by new ones... who had no clue how to use the advantage of volunteers or how to maintain them..... so the relationship was being killed at their end... even though I kept trying to feed it...
during that I met a lady who also wanted to volunteer... and I introduced her....
Her manner of socializing did not match mine... me being the lone ranger...haha...
and her being a very social person who gets very close and friendly very quickly.... and keeps calling all the time....
to my system.. that was a bit too much... and I kept a certian distant that contained things to a certain degree within my comfort zone....while at the same time.. not abandoning her...
She kept calling.. to help this to help that.. volunteer here adn volunteer there... while I was already tired.. and had soem health and personal issues... could not do it.... and did not want too many things on my plate.....
I was more interested in helping the organization.... because they fit into my comfort zone.... they did not bother me.... and the job I was doing was of an administrative, computer nature... that didnt require too much contact.... or too much traveling....
time went by.. and my contact with the organization was getting and less....do to fault of their own.... and due to other health issues of mine....time was also not a helpful factor....
the lady was still persistant.. and still calling....she wanted me to go meet people and teach kids.. and all that.....
having already found myself a failure in this program.... having been the one who initiated the whole thing.... and introduced her to it... because she is more of a social butterfly than myself... I already knew I would do a lousy job.. and kept saying:we will see...
I always wanted to help people... hands-on.. and in person...
but recently I have found that I am not adequate for this kind of job... I tried.. and was a miserable failure at it... I cannot go cheer people up in a hospital if I myself am having my own issues that I am fighting with.....
other people, like this lady .. can do it very well.. they are very sociable.. she has tons of problems.. but she is very good... she is still a social butterfly... :)

The phone calls never stopped... the messages never stopped...
I never knew a lady who persisted after my friendship this much in all my life...
and I found it annoying a bit... I am not used to this kind of closeness.... I never had very close friends before... never stuck around in a place long enough to develop such a thing I guess...
Today she called to wish me a Happy Eid.... grudginly I answered... knowing she would probably nagg me again to meet or go visit soemone... and I didnt feel like it.....
When we hung up the phone.... it hit me....
this is Eid...
she is alone..... her family is not in Jordan.... she has no one.... but her husband's family whom she doesnt get along with...
she is celebrating Eid alone....
so I called her back... to see if she wanted to go out....
and I said to bring her friend ... who is also alone.... she is a refugee...
we went out... we all felt better....
I got to know the refugee.... and heard some stories... that make you think how stupid you really are for thinking your own life is a worry.... when at least ,, the very least... when you go to bed at night... you feel safe..... when you wake up in the morning.. you feel safe.... you have clean water to drink..... you have food in your fridge........ Heck.. you HAVE a fridge....!!
they felt better....
they felt there is someone there who cares..... they are not so alone....
I wanted to help people....
and here they are...
hands-on....
they have always been there...
I just didnt like the package they came in :P
all I had to do was to go outside of my comfort zone again.... try again...
and there it was.... what I was always looking for....
now.... I hope I can do that again...

Yes sometimes you have to take a leap... if there is a higher purpose...
and it seems if you keep your intentions pure.... you are helped....
all you have to do is keep your intentions pure....
which is not always easy to do....:P

I can certainly identify with you and your feelings on the 'comfort zone'!
Although, it is NOT always easy, when we think of others (as you did), it takes our minds off of us!
Oftentimes, we find that we actually enjoy ourselves too, thus, receiving a double blessing! :)

That was really good reading and such wise words Traveler. It is so easy to be with people we really like but so much harder with people you don't relate to so easily. It is always hard to try things outside our comfort zone, and it looks like you did a great job. Well done you.
I had hoped to be back on line to wish you a happy Eid. But you have been on my mind. And sent happy thoughts to you for Eid.

I usually dont post while at work...
but the problem is when i get home.. sometimes I dont feel like posting comments either... or I would be busy with something else.. heheehehe...

Teh toy is still sitting htere... havent had a chance to build more since Eid's first day...
so far I have one tower.. and 2 of those round bases thingis...which are under each tower..with a bit of road attached to them...
dont think I will have time today for it either.. I have to inshallah leave the house.. go see my aunt.. and run some errands.....
but its good.. leaves me with more to play with later :)
my aunt gave me that purple dish receipe .. now i have to sit down and translate it...
hopefuly will do that sooooooooooon...
:) meanwhile.. look in arabic or tukish shops.. for a spice called sumak ! spelling might differ, but the sound should be the same.
and find also in those shops some big flat bread... sometimes that break has ridges... all over it.. that is better... as long as it is the round one.. like a big circle...
and in flat I mean it is not like italian or french bread... it doesnt have fluffy stuff inside it...
the bread is fluffy in itself.. but no extra material inside like french bread...
hope I explained that right :D
