The year 1429 AH has arrived... and Muharram is the month with which the Muslims begin their lunar Hijrah Calendar.
The calendar started when the Prophet did the Hijrah (move/ migration) to the city of Madina and they started an islamic society there.. away from the persecution they were getting in Mecca back then, at the hands of the Quriesh... who worshiped stone statues.... and was in power in Mecca. They had made life unbearable for muslims, by hurting them and torturing them.. so the prophet asked them to leave to Madina... and he was one of the last ones to get out...after everybody left.... So the day he arrived at Madina marks the begining of the Hijrah calendar
According to our Lunar Calendar... today is the first day of the islamic NEW YEAR...
and we have the day off yyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
That is the nice thing about having 2 major religions in this country.. you get many holidays around this time of the year

because it is a lunar calendar... next year 2009... the hijrah new year will not be on the same date.... it usually moves every year by about 14 days i think...

yeh I celebrated it by going out and seeing a movie.... it was cold yesterday... so I tried to stay indoors...
it looks nicer outside today with teh sun shining and everything... but I do have to finish up my laundry and such... so I am not sure if I will go out today... or I might just say HANG IT ALL... and run away.. wwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeee :D

yes I hate doing laundry too it takes ages.. now they are in the dryer and will also take ages to finish..
so i didnt go anywhere today... if I have the energy later i should take a shower too... :)
I hope they have some scary movie on tonight... otherwise I will have to dive into my library of movies and find soemthing..
JD you are one crazy red bug.. did you know that? heheheheee I will also need a horse... :D
