I've been meaning to make my first blog entry on this site for a few days, but I've never had anything to talk about. But now I'm bored, so I figured I'd post about this.
Okay, to make a long story short, I have a kidney disease. I have to go to Lexington to go to the doctor every 3 months. Lexington is about an hour away from here. Anyway, I was supposed to go a few weeks ago with my mom, my grandma, and my boyfriend, but we got a flat tire on the way. She had a spare, but she didn't want to risk driving on it all the way to Lexington, so we went back home. On the way home, my grandma said it just wasn't meant for me to go that day for some reason.
We rescheduled for last week, but it was for pretty early in the morning, and I didn't get much sleep, so I didn't feel like going. So we rescheduled again for today. My grandma had to go to a meeting for work so she couldn't go with us. My boyfriend was taking me to pick up my mom to go with me. When we got to my mom's house, she came outside and told me that we weren't going.
I asked her why and she said that she'd been having a bad feeling, and last night she had a dream that we were on our way to the doctor and we got in a car wreck. She just kind of ignored it, though, and was still going to go. But then she was in the bathroom and a bird flew out of the shower.
My family's not crazy superstitious, but there are certain things we view as bad omens. A bird flying in the house is one of those things. I'd always heard it symbolizes a death, and I've heard plenty of stories to back that.
Like my mom and her mom and sister had always told us about one day when mom's sister called her mom and said that a bird kept flying into the window trying to get into the house. They believed the superstition then, too, and later that night their grandma died.
Another time, a guy in my town that my family knows was at a gas station and a bird flew in and flew around him in a circle. The guy grabbed it and took it outside. Later that day he was mowing my neighbor's yard and had a heart attack and died.
Those are just two stories like that, I know of a lot more.
Now, I'm not asking you to believe me, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I do believe in things like that, and I've learned to trust bad feelings, too. My mom, her mom, me, and my sister all get them (I'm not sure if my mom's sister does or not). And a lot of the time bad things do happen when we get them.
My boyfriend was a little annoyed by this, because he doesn't believe in things like that, so he said, "We have to go, she's already missed 3 times. What if they refuse to see her anymore?". Me and my mom both said they wouldn't, but he was still annoyed. He started to put the car in drive and said "I guess we'll go by ourselves, then." My mom said no, and I made him stop. I really didn't want to go. Finally he calmed down and pretty much laughed about it. He still thinks we're stupid for believing shit like that, but I'm not taking any chances, especially with him and my mom with me.
