Be Wiki - Means Whatever You Want It To
There is a wiki myth that to be a part of a wiki, you must be:
  • all giving and no taking
  • oblivious to changes to work you have spent hours of volunteer time improving
  • ready to give in to employees who have nothing better to do than rearrange volunteer efforts
  • prepared to consign individualism to the dustbin
  • unperturbed by the constant refrain of "be wiki or be gone"
The problem is that what is wiki is in the mouth of the beholder. Being wiki is anything a person wants it to be provided it can be couched in reasonable enough terms that make the other party look like a total ass for getting in the way of whatever the person querying that party's wiki-ness wants. Ultimately, asking someone to behave in a wiki way is laced with subjective notions and comes right back to the door of individualism, only this time it is cloaked by the wiki-words being used. How very convenient this can be when the person using these weasle wiki-words is aiming to totally deconstruct the writing of another and cover up their own tracks with "be wiki"

Whatever happened to "be considerate" and "show respect"?
