| Introduction, Buffalo VS. Rochester

So after facecreeping a couple college buddies, ive decided to jump on the blogosphere myself, so heres entry number 1. First a quick rundown of what I intend with this blog: basically any ruminations about the world, stories concerning my friends and mine shenanigans, both here and at penn state, and any debates that are running through my head. Also, this is not any place for stupid gossip, so if youre itching for something like my old livejournal circa 2003-2004, youre very much out of luck. Also, since I can see eventually having to meet the dean over the future contents of this blog, I will be using pen names for all friends involved, both tonawanda and psu, a'la tucker max. Hopefully this will be amusing and thought provoking.
What first made me come home from work to do this was a little debate I was ruminating about on my commute home. I was out on the town w/ my friend Jager last nite, a rochester transplant from my hometown, and we were talking about how rochester radio is so much better than buffalo radio and that led to a larger debate: which city has more to offer or namely, which city is better? Ive lived in the buffalo area for my whole life discounting the last 6 school years and I have many undergrad friends from rochester, as well as me working there this summer. So on the way home, I was going through several categories and who would take the advantage in each. What follows are my conclusions.
RADIO: As perviously stated, the difference is really night and day, Rochester morning shows casually throw out "douchebag" and "bitch" like no problem and have debated things such as how to tell if you could be in porn or buying a doll that looks just like a baby and doing things such as locking it in ur trunk before going into the store. Plus the musics really good, whereas Buffalo radio is always a crapshoot and there really isnt any funny or meanigful discussion in the morning or afternoons. I see this as a blowout. WINNER ROCHESTER
EDUCATION: This will only pertain to colleges since I didnt go to high school in the buffalo city limits and have no idea what they are like in either city- im sure both have their metal detectors and illiterate children. Basically I see it as RIT, U of R and St. John Fisher on one side and UB, Buff State and Canisius on the other (sorry niagara and bonas, youre too far away). This is also pretty easy, even if UB and Canisius were as good as RIT and U of R (which theyre not), the final battle would be a blowout for Rochester. Fisher's dorms are used by the bills in training camp and buff states are near an insane asylum. WINNER ROCHESTER
FOOD: Garbage plates and zwigles vs Mighty Taco, Wings, Beef on Weck and Jims Steakout. Jager works at a restaurant in rochester and after living in the area for nearly two years he maintains that its impossible to get anything legitimately "buffalo style," merely 60 miles down from the birthplace of the buffalo wing. This is another blowout, but going the other way. WINNER BUFFALO
DRINK: Genesee vs labbat's. Yes, I can count Labbat's because the US headquarters is located here, plus the first time genny was actually brewed it was in a friends house here in the buffalo suburbs. Basically I guess it depends who's answering the question, if its a 45 year old obese truck driver, its prolly genesee but I am only one of those things so its gotta be labbat's, even if i did slam back genny light from ages 18-21. WINNER BUFFALO
SPORTS: This one really isnt fair as Rochester is hamstrung by their size and proximity to Buffalo. Sabres and Bills against Amerks and Red Wings is pretty straight forward, plus UB is technically a Division I program. Plus KanJam was invented here, which would tip the scales even if we only counted minor league teams.
WINNER BUFFALO
CRIME: While both cities have their impressive murder rates, Rochester led the nation in homicides recently. Plus when I walk into a downtown supermarket in buffalo i dont feel like i should be wearing a bulletproof vest, like the tops on lake avenue in rochester where i cash my work checks. WINNER BUFFALO (or loser if youre a murderer)
MUSIC: Yes, this is different than radio. Rochester gets some great acts as any of us know who have made the trek up to water street or blue cross arena for a show. Buffalo gets some good acts too but for the life of me I cant remember the last one I went to here. Plus, Darien Lake cant count because it falls halfway between the two cities. However, the fact that thursday in the square is way better than party in the park, does make it more of a challenging matchup but then again, both shows are free. Despite both the goo goo dolls and talas coming from Buffalo, this goes to WINNER ROCHESTER
PARTY SCENE: This is tough considering Im not much of a downtown guy, but after partaking in many rochester area bars including several up and down monroe ave, as well as taking in the chippewa and allentown areas of Buffalo, Id say theres places in both cities that I like very much. However, if one is looking for some club action, youre gonna have a harder time in Rochester. WINNER BUFFALO
GIRLS: Now this is questionably the most important category for my age demographic. Both areas have their skanky looking girls throughout the bars, as well as girls that love to put back their liquor, so I guess personal experience has to decide this one. Rochester does have one of the best kissers in some random chick that i ran into my freshman year at bonas. I have however dated several girls from here, though none since 2004 thanks to the Bonas class of 08. Come to think of it, the last buffalo girl i dated couldnt kiss, flashed her boobs to a friend at daily, dated a douchebag and now has a kid. Plus I did almost have sex w/ a rochester girl in the doyle laundry room sophomore year. WINNER ROCHESTER
ROCHESTER 4
BUFFALO 5
So it was a close match but Buffalo's wings, sabres and labbats top the garbage plates, great music and fiesty women. I may have forgotten a couple categories or points so feel free to add any. Peace.
