Ambition -
An old edition of Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines it as "an ardent desire for rank, fame, or power."
Or, "striving after something higher than oneself." And, a "desire for recognition of accomplishment" to which it adds "...without actual possession of the necessary ability."
a second definition would simply be "a yearning for success."
Ambition seems to be a noun without a verb form. So possibly credit without ability is an accurate portrayal of ambition. Oscar Wilde said ambition is the last refuge of failure. But can not ambition be positive? Does ambition drive one towards accomplishment? Or is it just supercilous motivation which leads to ultimate demise? Is it personal obligatory incentive, a dream desperately fashioned into a goal, or a naive self-inflicted malfunction of destiny?
