From the Tome of Histories by Alonsus Fadeleaf, Historian to Baron Caen Ableman, and Queen Adelaine of Winterveil. First Magus of the White Tower, and Chief Wizard of the Council of 15.
The mists of time are somewhat less for those of us here, on Gaeldan. To an extent. Though we have existed here for countless years, our histories only date back to roughly 500 years after the Rising. The Rising And it is this period that this tome shall cover. The legends, myths and stories of the Old People, and the coming of the New People during the rise.
Our life, our world, started, according to the Dwarves when the gods came together to form it. The god, Moradin, took the metal that was the world and formed it in his great forge. He shaped it, and streatched it. Giving it form and shape.
Then, he created the Dwarves. HIS people. The would rise to power, and plumb the deapths and mountainous regions of the world. Further continuing their Father's work. He loved them dearly, it is said and still watches over them, and the rest of his children in the Astral Plain to this day.
Once his work was done, he passed the world to Melora. Melora loved nature, and she loved trees, and rocks and dirt. Unto this world she blessed it with air and sky. Raging ocean and quiet stream. Ferocious beast and timid creature. Dessolate plains and lush forests.
She turned to her sister, Sehannine, and asked her to help bless our world. And she did. The goddess of illusion, autumn and the moon aided her sister in creating the emotions that permeate the world. Love, hope, loss, sadness all were created through their blessings. Next, the two sisters created the Eladrin, and from them, the Elves arose. Both reveare the sisters.
Then, the Sisters passed the world to Pelor. God of the sun, summer, harvest and kindness. He built on top of the foundation the other gods had made. Producing fruit on the planets, and giving the world it's light during the day. The opposite to Sehannine's moon at night. He filled the world with compassion, light and kindness. And from there, he passed the world to Bahamut.
Bahamut looked at the world, and judged it to be good. He feared, however, that the other gods had forgotten something important: The order of law. And so, into the world, Bahamut sent law and order. Rules for right living. And the dragons became the guardians of this. The Red, Black, White, Green and Blue flights kept the peace, and preserved the balance against the darkness that Bahamut was sure would arrive.
And, arrive it did. The Evil Gods swept into the world, and captured the world from the Good Gods, as they new they must. There is a balance in all things, and the Evil Gods bestowed that balance. Lolth, Tiamat, Asmodeus, Gruumsh, Bane, Torog and Zehir poured their malice, their hate...their greed, lust, murder and destruction into the world. The hearts of the People became two sides of the same coin. Each would wage a battle against their darker intincts.
To Bahamut's dismay, his eternal rival, Tiamat, corrupted a vast majority of his dragons. All the flights were decimated, and Bahamut wept. For Tiamat and the others had shown the dragons darkness, and it had tempted them, and warped their nobility. The became dark, corrupt and unredeeable.
Those few dragons who stayed on the path of their progenitor were rewarded with greater powers to combat those forces of Tiamat. And so began the eternal war between brother and sister. Tiamat and her dark dragons fighting against Bahamut and his few good. These good dragons would eventually give rise to the Dragonborn. One of the New People. Dragons would dwindle until, as they are today, there are more evil than good.
Into this mess strode The Raven Queen. Seeing the war that would rage for eternity, she sought to aid those who died, no matter what their alignment, to find peace in death. And so, she took it upon herself to become the goddes of death. However, in the darkness of the abyss, the Evil Gods schemed. The Raven Queen's throne would be a boon to them. And so, in their perverted form they created Orcus, the demon lord of the undead. And thus began the eternal struggle the Raven Queen andher followers, the Shadar'Khai would wage.
Next into the world were the last of the unaligned gods, giving their blessings where the willed, and helping the rest of the gods to create the final races. Humans and halflings. A few decades later, the Half-Elves appeared as humans mated with Eladrin and Elves. After which the Tiefling appeared. Combinations of Humans and demons.
The most recent race are the dragonborn. Given rise by Bahamut's blessing and the good dragons. Though, not all dragonborn are good. Their empire was vast and long lived, but peaceful with the other races. Through out the following years other races, both good and evil were found. The Gnomes, the Kobold and the rest. Titans and Giants returned, the crazed former slaves of the god Moradin. And thus began the world.
It was not long after that Corellon and Ioun linked this world with the others they had all created. This link was placed on the highest mountain in the world, in the top of a tall keep, guarded by guardians long since gone insane. This door leads to the City of Doors, which legends call Sigil. From there, there are many places you may go. All with similar histories, but none exactly the same.
Where we go from here, is up to the gods. Up to us. What happens shall be recorded, perhaps by me, or perhaps after my death. But learn the lessons of history well. Otherwise, we are no more than the animals of the earth, doomed to wander in an existance apart from the passage of time.
