| In Köln |
Sometimes, the most important thing in life is heat. I have spent a whole day meandering around Köln's many streets, visiting the large christmas markets dotted around the place whilst freezing to the point of "hands and feet can't feel".
Everytime we went into a shop or other public gathering place it was like a cosy oasis in a deteriorating world of blazing ice and frost. Even going in the underground U-Bahn stations was a blessing. Saying all this makes it seem as if I hated every minute of it and I have to say that can't be further from the truth. I loved Köln! Every year (ish) we visit the christmas markets in Köln and every year I come back wishing I was staying.
Today I, well we, bought numerous bits and bobs which can begin their life of "staying in the house and rotting away until we can't remember why or where we bought it", which I have to say, is a pretty boring life. Christmas was almost upon us which meant walking around was like swimming through vast vats of thick honey (i.e the crowds). Although this sometimes got annoying, the body heat which was exchanged at these compulsory travels was more than enough to keep you moving and warm.
One or two points: Do NOT attempt to fight your way into a pub 2 days before christmas in Köln because I can guarentee you that the overwhelming crowds WILL carry you away until your completely lost and disorientated whereupon you will start the whole process again. =)
If you get on a tram and find that you are in a carriage which happens to contain a mad man (which unfortunatly happened to us) pull the emergancy stop cord and go before you get stabbed. Or, if you fancied a more ethical option =) sit and smile while your journey continues. (please don't choose option 1).
However, if you are planning a visit to Früh (a well known and famous pub next to the Cathedral) then do not be put off because you will never guess how many knocks and crannies that are contained inside that pub´. Go anyway. We went on saturday night, peak time, and couldn't find a table, we asked the waiter and he showed us a, (what seemed like) a secret mini hall of empty tables and potenial happiness.......woooo! Also the beers good =).
Have a good time if your going!

Sorry about this addition, but I could get the system to let me make a new blog entry so I'm attaching it to this one until it sorts itself out =D
I have pondered the fractions of the golden pond, decantered in an urn.
East lies the secret of the darkened tomb, there is more to meet the eye to see.
Demons swamp our daily doings, but all we can do is laugh.
Early wakes the river of life, holy spirit fills you up for this is it's call.
Pampered in our lives we are; but only if we could see what lies for us when we step before His white Throne.
For any reasonably intelligent person out there; there is a message hidden in this poem which isn't hard to find. Its what the message means and what devastating effect it will have on your lives if you understand the fear it can embed into you. Just as it did to me one morning after a certain gathering. If you do not fear Him, you do not truly understand Him.
