| Stupidity #2: Sex changes
|

So, I've seen the news specials and the magazine articles and whatnot. I know the story behind it, and so does everyone else, so the amount of publicity this is all getting has proved to me yet again that the world is filled with ignorant people. What I'm referring to is this supposed "pregnant man." I mean, seriously, what's all the hooplah about? #1. It's just a woman with a "sex change", and #2. Removing her breasts and undergoing "testosterone therapy" doesn't make her a man, because her DNA is the same and she still has her female reproductive organs (obviously). So she's not the "first man" (no matter what she "legally" is), but the first "Faux-Hermaphrodite." Now that may sound a little cruel, but let me explain. I could understand it if she was born a true hermaphrodite, with both male and female organs, and her parents oddly chose to make her a man in identity but keep her female reproductive organs instead of the male ones. That'd be weird, but it could happen, and if that were the case this wouldn't be that bad. Yes, it still wouldn't be the first TRUE male pregnancy, but at least there would be some credibility behind it. BUT (pay attention to that particular conjunction) she's NOT! She's (notice how I keep saying "she") just the product of plastic surgery. The outside may seem male, but her core structure, her DNA, is the same double X chromosome, and because of that, she is still a "she," not a "he," and the media's representation of all of this is ridiculous in light of these scientific facts.
Looking into the matter, though, I see a deeper problem, and that is what my point actually is: The true stupidity doesn't merely lie in the media's hype over all of this nonsense, but in the culturally accepted idea that a person can simply have plastic surgery and hormonal therapy to change their gender. This just doesn't make sense. Call me ultra-conservative, but all getting a sex change tells me is that you aren't content with who you are. If you were born a particular gender, then you stay that gender No-matter-what you do to yourself. To assume otherwise is pure stupidity. Yet, in this nation that is supposed to be SO scientific and intelligent, people actually believe otherwise! Do the doctors that operate on these people actually believe that they are changing their patient's genders? They couldn't possibly! In order for a true gender-change to occur, DNA would have to be altered, and that, last time I checked, is illegal. So, these surgeries couldn't possibly be credible, or else people like the aforementioned woman would be considered illegal experiments, would they not? Instead, they're considered "legally" to be the opposite gender, even though they really aren't. Therein lies the stupidity. The only thing these surgeries accomplish is to further intensify the delusion of the patient.
