| I'm supposed to get over this?! |
Every now and again, especially since this last election, I come across extreme, racially charged blogs. Minorities, and Black people specifically, are admonished to "get over slavery" and stop dwelling on the past. We need to move on so we can make something of ourselves as a people. We need to stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility for the failures of our race. Then come unbelievably moronic statements like "you people have all black colleges, how is that not racist?". And while I do feel that African Americans need to learn to work together and support our businesses and promote economic and personal growth within our community, it still amazes me that there are people who act like blatant racism does not exist. Because I like to have fun when I blog, I mostly steer clear of political and racial blogs, but I came across a couple of articles that angered and deeply saddened me. While this nation has come such a long way with race relations, it's obvious that we still have a long way to go. This is why we can't just "get over it!".
