Having lived in both San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, I have witnessed the rise in popularity and presence of bicycle coalitions in cities, which have promoted various events such as “Bike to Work Day” and annual naked bicycle rides. Aside from the humor, these organizations are creating engaging environments, while encouragaing a sense of camaraderie among its members as well as those throughout the city. Such coalitions have also worked to promote bicycle safety, and continue working with law enforcement in an attempt to get cyclists and automobile drivers to work in unison. This is a great way to get involved with local communities, and it sure helps cutting down on fuel.
