| Proactive Healing and You

Everyone knows that Healadins rock. We got a huge boost in BC with Divine Illumination. That said, that skill is only useful in Endgame. Either way, I love it. That with my Oshu'gun Relic and my Tome of Fiery Redemption makes me smile.
But there is an essential skill you need to have if you are going into raids or end game dungeons like TK. And that is proactive healing.
There are two styles of healing. In the past, you've been waiting till someone got hurt, then throwig down a flash of light or holy light. This isn't going to cut it any more. The simple reason for this is that bosses and trash hit hard in raids. That extra second it takes to get a heal off if you are doing reactive healing (the previous style) is going to get your tank killed. This is BAD.
So, to avoid this there are two AddOns and a skill you are going to need. First, get GRID or HEALBOT. I prefer Healbot. Grid bothers me. Though, get Grid anyways and leave it running so other healers know what you're doing. Next, get Quartz. Quartz shows a big cast bar when you cast a spell with a red area in the bar for your latency. When your spell meter hits that red bar, you can actually start casting again. This means more heals faster.
Next you need to be proactive with your healing. Notice how your spells stop casting when you move? This is a blessing. My example is going to be the battle with Al'ar since I love it.
Al'ar moves from tank to tank during the battle, You need 4 tanks. I am generally the main healer for tanks 3 and 4 with my friend Kekoa backing me up incase I start falling behind or something goes wrong. Which I'm glad. Kekoa is good. VERY good. I also like having Svel....
Sorry I lost my train of thoght....
Anyways, there is a space of time between tanks where Al'Ar isn't doing any damage to anyone. His embers are...but that's not my problem. Got an ember issue, talk to a Raid healer (Sista, Saur and Sheri.) They'll fix you up. This space of time, this CRTICIAL moment is where I start healing. Why? Because as soon as Al'Ar gets to the tank, he's going to take damage. My job at this moment is to undue that damage. That way, when Al'Ar hits, my heal goes off at the same time, negatiing the damage. After that, it's easy street with Flash of Light.
Also, you can move when healing. So, lets say you're fighting trash. You're healing away and ooops, looks like that guy doesn't need to be healed yet. Jump. Move. This stops the cast bar, saving you Mana and saving your Raid leader from from taking to you about over healing.
The point is, be careful with your mana. It is finite, and can only be recarged with innervate, or pots. Not a major problem for Paladins but still.
Also, learn to work as a cohiesive unit. Find people you know and trust, learn their play style and mould with them. I work with..7 other healers most of the time. I know each of them, and trust them all to watch my back, just as they trust me to watch mine.
Example: I'm normally paired with Kekoa for main tank healing duties. Or off tank healing. We work really well together for the simple reason that we play together A LOT. We do Arena together, we play D&D together, we do BG's together we spend alot of time on Vent together. Same with Sheri.
I trust Saur because I've known him almost 2 years. He's a good player, and learns faster than most. Sista because she's the leader. I trust Svel because she's Svelvet and I enjoy her company. I don't know Rav well enough yet to gel with him, but give us time. Healadins tend to stick together.
Which reminds me, Xores, you jackass, if you read this, WTF Man? W. T. F.? Get back on WoW for God's Sake. I swear, if you aren't back on WoW by the time I'm done this god-forsaken shift on the 14th I will personally kick your ass. I will drive from Ontario to Idaho and beat you with a beaver. We work well together, and we are unstoppable as a unit. So seriously? WTF?
Play nice, children. |
