 A Bad Day
I am so glad today is a new day.  Yesterday was bad.  Our cable had went out the night before and was out all day.  This made my toddler angry as he missed out on his Disney Channel all day.  The repair man finally got her after 6 and finally fixed it.  Comes to find out someone in my building was getting disconnected and the dufus of a worker disconnected the wrong one.  This not only knocked out my cable but my phone and net as well, as I have a bundle package for all my communication services.

After that things were very quiet.  We finally got our little one down to sleep, watched some TV and went to bed.  Then at 2AM I was awoken from a dead sleep with slamming doors and yelling from outside in the apt. hallway.  I just sorta cursed the ruckus and started to fall back to sleep.  (This shit happens in this complex from time to time and I really can't wait until our lease is up to move.  I will give more detail on this situation in a moment.)  I was just about back to sleep when there was a loud knocking on our door.  Well after that ruckus, I decided that I wasn't going to answer it, so I woke my husband to have him answer it.  It was our Apt. Manager asking if we had a towel for our neighbor Benny to use.  He had just got jumped by two guys.

WTF, at this point I jump out of bed to see whats going on.  My neighbor Benny, who lives right across from me is covered in blood and the hallway is splattered in blood.  Benny is an older gent who other than the fact isn't good at paying money loaned to him back, is very sweet and my husband and I really like him.  Who could do this and why?  Comes to find out a young Mexican woman knocked on his door, and he let her in.  (This is all the detail I have on this part, why he let her in I don't know)  And two Mexican guys followed her in and beat him up, stole his two phones and busted some stuff up in his apt.  Our Apt. Manager had just come back from the convience store and saw him beaten and bloody and thats when she came to our door after calling 911.

The Cops came and my husband and I went back inside figuring we would not be anymore help giving we did not even know what was really going on.  But this did get us talking and thinking.  This is not the first time shit like this has happened around here.  We starting talking that if we stay here much longer it might be wise to buy a gun.  I mean, my husband is ex Army, and I come from a family that loves to hunt, so neither one of us are strangers to guns or gun safety.  We both know how to use one and are not afraid of one.  We know how to keep our toddler son safe with one in the house and so on and so forth, so this is not a problem.  The problem is the fact that we feel like we may need one if we stay here much longer.

This is not a good apt building and has gotten worse since the orginal owner lost the place.  Hell, technically we don't even have an offical owner, just some company out of ILL with custody of the place.  It has really went futher down hill since all that.  But like I said, it was bad to begin with.  Ok let me state for the record here folks, I AM NOT PREJUDICE!!!!!!  I DON'T CARE WHAT RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, OR WHAT EVER YOU ARE, THAT DOES NOT IMPACT MY VIEWS OF YOU.  Now that I have that out of the way, let me get to the apt building I live in.  It does have a lot of Mexicans in it.  A lot who are illegal and don't even speak english.  This I know for a fact as the ones who do speak english have told me as much.  For one they trash the place.  God the outside looks like a total pig sty out there.  They just throw their shit all over the place.  Over by the mailboxes, all the junk mail that is recieved is just thrown around and yet there is a trash can right by the mailboxes for such things.  But no they find the ground more convenient I guess.  They let their kids run around, some my 2 year olds age and younger, and there is not a parent in sight, or they are sitting on their balcony if they even have that much supervision.  They are loud, they are rude, they are everything you can think of as the worse neighbors.

Now granted, the guys who jumped Benny may not even live in this complex, again I don't know all the details here.  But it does make one wonder.  And even more it makes me concerned for my family's safety.  I am a stay at home mom, and my husband works.  Sometimes he works long and sometimes odd hours.  Thankfully the current Temp Job he is at has him working day shift, but there have been many times he is gone until late at night until around 2-3 am, or will have to work an over night shift.  This leaves me at home alone with our 2 year old son.  Now I am far from defenceless.  Being raised around a lot of men, I learned to fight and defend myself and have no fear of doing what I must to keep safe, but still, like everyone I have my limits.  There have been strange knocks on my door in the middle of the night, only to find no one there.  I constantly have people knock on my door asking for someone else, and after I get the point across to them that, that person does not live here, they try to talk to me and want to come in and such.  Many have even decided to try touch my tattoo that I have just above my breast.  Come on now, it does not say touch me, so keep your fucking hands off buddy ok.  A TATTOO DOES NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO TOUCH ANOTHER PERSON GET THE HINT YOU ASSHOLE!!!  All of this, (and more of course) combined with poor Benny getting jumped really makes me nervous of my own home.  Not to mention, for one, we don't have a car right now, so we walk, or bus it.  Currently my husband rides a bike back and forth to work, and as I said, depending on his shift this can be late at night.  This also makes me scared for him.  Its times like this that the worse goes through your mind.

I really can't wait until our lease is up and we can move from here.  I really wish I could speed up time so we can hurry and get out.  But until then, I will do as usual and just play it careful.  Later I will knock on Benny's door and check on him.  He is such a sweet guy, I really hope he is ok.
