| The Way(I Wish)We Were(2)

I got home from school today, and as usual locked myself up(figuratively) in my room to once again work on my damn HSC papers. Well this time I'm really working on my film assessment. I had the brilliant idea of editing it frame by frame so that the color would turn out exactly the way I like. Tsk Tsk, stupid stupid David. Anyway...
Mum walks into my room, withought knocking might I add.
"David, come out, we have company," she says like I knew it all along.
"I didn't know the Smiths were coming for dinner?"
"It's not the Smiths, it's a new teacher at your sisters school, her husband and their daughter,"she says with a mocking smile on her face.
Now that's agood way to get my attention: daughter. I hope she's not 10.
"Okay I'll be there in a minute."I say, just a bit of an edge in my voice.
I'm still in my uniform, my hair looks like crap and that damn pimple that appeared on my chin this morning is definately not dissapeared. There's nothing you can do about it now, I tell myself, just go out there and brave the dreaded monster! Ha! It won't be that bad, she's probably not even in school yet, I have nothing to worry about.
I walk out into the den and see mum engrossed in conversatino with a woman who looks to be in her 40's, and dad, talking to who I assume to be the womans husband.
"Hello, I'm David," I introduce myself. Where's your daughter is what I really want to ask. Damn hormones.
"Nice to meet you David, I'm Janine and this is my husband Patrick"she says in a warm tone,"and over there is our teenage daughter Morgan, she seems to have warmed up to your sister Ann quite nicely!"
I turn to look at this girl Morgan. Her back is to me but I see the most gorgeoushair I have ever seen. Perfect golden locks fall halfway down her back and her blue jeans hug to her hips so beautifuly. If there was ever a picture definition of beauty this would be it. I know it sounds cliche but I'm smitten with this perfect girl.
"Hi David" Morgan says as she sheepishly turns around to unveil the rest of her. Now it's for sure, she's an angel.
"H-h-hi" I manage to stammer just a bit incoherently but undetectable to anyone's notice.
As we are heading to the dining room to be seated for dinner, I push past Ann, my lousy 15 year old sister to get the seat next to Morgan.
"Do you mind is we say grace?" Asks mum,
"not at all," I reply in my head.
This is my cue to take the hands of the people on either side of me. I less tahn dilicately grab Ann's clammy dirty hand, and place my other on table the side of Morgan. She peers at me through a wall of curls ever so slightly and then places her soft hand hesitantly in mine.
"Thank you for this meal we are about to recieve and for blessing us with these guests tonight," Mum says the usual grace quickly and efficienty as usual.
A small chorus of "amen's" flicker through us all.
Quickly, Morgan takes her hand back. Drat, I guess I haven't made a very good first impression. I'll just have to work for her approval.
"So you're from New York? Nice place, I visited there when I was about 12. How do you like Nundle in comparison? Bit small I bet"
"Yeah, it's a bit... uneventful, but the people seem friendly and it's really pretty." She answers and she looks at me for the briefest moment and I swear I was a little glint in her eye. A hint of recognition or something like that.
"Ha! Nundle can definately be... uneventful as you say, but you get used to it after 17 years or so. So how old are you 16 did you say?"
" I didn't say and I'm 15, 16 in June, so...4 months away?"
"No! You're not 15! You can't be you look... my age!"
Hmm... That could be a bit of a problem... Dating younger girls? What would I know about that, nothing I guess. Well I think the proper question would have to be what do I know about dating in itself. I don't date, I can't take the whole relationship thing. All the expectations. They just freak me out, plus I have no time at all to deal with a girl.
As dinner came to an end, mum offered to let "the children" wash up. Morgan, of course being the guest had no problem with that, so she got up right away to start clearing. That's when Ann leaned over to me and whispered
"David, don't you go near her, I saw you eying her before and you know the deal, you don't date my friends and I don't date yours. If you do, Jason and I get to go the movies together!"
" Don't worry freak, I don't date anyways."
And to that she gave me a dubious look and slinked off to help her new "friend" with dishes.
I decided I wasn't quite needed for this bit of the evening so Isnuck off to my room, relatively un noticed and sat in front of my computer. What am I doing?, I thought to myself. First off, I'm falling for my sisters friend. And secondly I'm not out there flirting like mad. So I got up and started towards the door. As I was just about to walk out I caught a glimpse of my cologne in the corner. Should I? Why not, so I did, just a little spritz in the air, and walk through it so it's not too pungent.
I walk out of my room, quite confident with myself, but mum catches me,
"Why don't you show us what you're up to in your film task honey?"
Oh she's really done it now,
"But it's not even finished," she gives me a look,"oh alright" I slink back into my room to retrieve the DVD, beaten by the beast yet again!\
As the night comes to a slow close, and our guests are walking out to their car, Morgan comes up to me and says with a flirty slight smile on her face,
"Tonight was fun, see you again sometime."
I'm sure if it was an invitation, a question or just a general complliment. I hope it was the first.
