 Memories - Part 1
We all have those memories that we can never forget. Whether they are good times, bad times, troubled times or special events that happened in our lives. Memories is what makes me thrive more and more each day. I want to surpass the old ones and make even better ones. I want to make the bad ones better by not reliving them, and preventing them if I can.

I would have to say some of my fondest memories are of the days I was a Marine. I initially joined the Corps as I didn't know what I wanted when I graduated college. I didn't really want to follow my degree's, and didn't want a typical job where I was from. I guess you could say I had some oats to sow and some sights to see. Now at first I wanted to go in another service, which I am not going to mention, but somehow I ended up talking to the sharp dressed guy, with very little hair on his head who stood tal and proud.

Everyone told me I was crazy and stupid for joining. I knew I was but I really wasn't ready to enter the work force. So, off to training I went. A gruelling 13 week thrashing on my mind, body and soul. I was tried and tested and wore down to nothing, but it was worth every sweat bead that ran across my forehead or down my back and every drop of blood I lost doing something.

I started out in an infantry battalion. With all of the gun slingers, and grunts. A really tight, well knit group of people. A brotherhood you wouldn't understand unless you were part of. marines stand by one another regardless of the situation. You mess with one and there happens to be 10 others around, who more than likely don't know each other, you just opened up a whole can of beans with all of them there.

So as time went on in the Corps, I moved and traveled and trained, every where we went we had a grand time. You ever heard the saying you work hard and play harder, well that was us. It was kind of like being in college, but with a little stricter time table and totally different set of rules.

While in, I seen alot of places and did alot of things. Did a few depolyments before the whole War on Terrorism which I got to see a good bit of SOuthern Europe and experience the different cultures, and even a few jails and policia cars, (another good memory there). I also seen alot of things that I will never want to see again although in my line of work I still see it, but from a different perspective.

I have served my country both in Peacetime and in wartime and don't regret it one bit. I am not service biased but if someone serves, then they deserve the respect of a service member regardless of what service they choose or what service chooses them. Still today I have an Eagle, Globe and Anchor burned into my heart.

There is a reason this is my first memory post, because they were the most memorable times of life, so far.
