 Be Happy, Damn it.

Very few things in this world make me truly angry. However, one of those few things are people who are intentionally negative just to make others around them just as miserable as they are. For some people, it doesn't matter how good they have it their life, how nice other people are to them, or even how nice of a day it is. Some people just can't find the good in anything. I work at Petsmart as a cashier. It's not the most glamorous, exciting, or well paying jobs but the way I look at it is that at least I can say I have a reason to get up early in the morning and start my day, do something productive, pet a couple of dogs here and there, and at the end of the week get some extra money. However, there's always that one girl in that other department who just HAS to bring your contentment down a notch. I'm not going to mention her name because A) a lot of people at work read this blog, and B) because she knows who she is anyway. She's one of these girls who has pretty much screwed up her life by making stupid decisions and isn't ashamed whatsoever to tell anyone who has a pulse about her "situation". I've heard her story that involves a bunch of drugs, alcohol, and a couple of unwanted pregnancies here and there about a gazillion times and after every time she she tells it, she ends her schtick with "So that's  why I now am having to work here" as she rolls her eyes and lets out a big sigh. I want so badly to pull a Naomi Cambell and throw my phone at her but I don't. Instead, I take a deep breathe and say with a completely straight face "Well, at least it's dog food you have to sell and not your cat" (but I don't say cat). Of course she gives me a shocked expression as though she's never heard such a thing leave someone's mouth as I strut out of the breakroom with my mountain dew in one hand and my rice krispie treat in the other. That's my little smart-ass way of being positive.

That makes me so mad because I actually ENJOY working there, and I don't HAVE to work there because of any kind of "situation" that I've landed myself into. People like her, who are miserable with their lives, always find it necessary to make it bad for the rest of us who are just trying to go along through life in a quiet, peaceful and methodical way by trying to make us just as miserable as they are so they don't feel so bad. However, I don't see how this is making them feel any better. Are they any better now that they've made me feel bad? no. Is their day any better now that I have a mild headache from their whining? nope. Are they any more likely to try to improve their lives and their outlook now that they've unloaded all their crap on me and wasted my fifteen minute break? probably not. So my advise to those people (and you know who you are) is to do what you must with your life, whether it be good or bad, deal with the consequences but shut up about it and let me enjoy my mellow life instead of trying to kill it. Good grief, where's a hippie when you actually need one?

Wow!
Well, I'm new here & thought of reading some random blogs. The title interested me. I landed myself in some big mess a few days ago which I'd actually been building up for a long time...the realization came later! I want to sincerely thank you for writing this cause I tend to whine & complain about my life when I feel a bit down(whatever the reason may be)...and I never realized completely what the other person who is listening might be feeling! But SpiffyPyro, I gotta tell you this, although I'm sure you know it already, don't let some stuck-up comment made by some troubled person bother you too much.
N.B. I enjoyed reading your writing!

LOL, you are a funny girl! And you are right, she doesn't have to sell her fleabit cat. With your attitude, wish I had a job to give you. Oh, and here is your hippie.
