 Adventures in Bohol
It has already been more than 2 years now since I last stepped on the island of Bohol. I’m thrilled and excited to see my grandmother and close relatives, and what makes it more exciting is that, I will be traveling with my closest friends in CFM. Last Thursday, October 22 Ronnell, Kris, VM and I took the Cebu Pacific flight bound for Bohol. It was only a one hour flight. As the plane landed in the Tagbilaran City Airport, our excitement grew stronger. In the airport, we were met by Mayet (another CFM colleague) who also hails from Bohol. She went ahead of us to attend some personal matters. Right there also, we were met by our tour guide/driver named Mang Jun. Prior to our Bohol trip, I have already arranged a package tour for our group. Mang Jun drove us from airport to Alona Kew Beach Resort in Panglao, where our group would be staying for 3 days. On our way to the resort I was enchanted by the beauty of Bohol. It’s a picture of simplicity yet breathtaking. It has a lot of splendid historical and tourist attractions.

DAY 1
Upon our arrival to Alona Kew Beach Resort, we immediately went for a dip in the beach. The water is clear, the air is fresh, the sun is up, the people are nice… In a nutshell, we were having fun! We had non stop picture taking on the beach. We were soaked in the water until sunset. It’s so amazing that, as the sun was slowly hiding, the sky has turned into a bright colored sky, with various patterns of color. We were just there, witnessing the awesome transformation.

DAY 2
We woke up early because our call time with Mang Jun is 8AM. Today is the start of our day tour. Our first stop was the site of “The Blood Compact” in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City. This particular site was made in honor of a very important event in the Philippine history done between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain and Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol. This Sikatuna-Legaspi blood compact is considered as the First Treaty of Friendship between two different races, religions, cultures and civilizations. It was a treaty of friendship based on respect and equality. This event is commonly known as “Sandugo”. From there we went to Baclayon Church. The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon is considered to be one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. This was said to be built during the 17th century. Next to the church is the old convent, which also houses a small museum with centuries-old religious relics, artifacts and other antiques. Then we went to the town of Alborquerque to check out the famous Fronnie, the phyton. The phyton is huge and long, and according to the folks there the phyton is only fed once a month. Among his favorites are chicken and goats. At lunch time, we proceeded to Valencia, to visit my grandmother, and of course to fill our hungry tummies. It was really a nice feeling to see my grandma again after so long. She couldn’t hide her joy when she saw her favorite granddaughter.  She’s already 86 years old but still going strong. We shared stories and had a few snapshots. From my grandma’s house we resumed our tour, we passed by the famous man made forest in the town of Loboc. We also dropped by the Butterfly farm. Then, made a stop over at a Tarsier sanctuary in Loboc. It was our first encounter with the smallest primate in the world. It measures about 3 to 4 inches. They are so cute! You should not miss these nocturnal creatures when you are in Bohol. We also had a stop over at the hanging bridge also in Loboc. My knees were shaking as I was crossing the bridge. At the other side of the bridge you will find souvenir shops, selling crafts and delicacies from Bohol. Finally, our next destination, the famous Chocolate Hills in the town of Carmen. To have a full view of the hills you have to climb 214 steps. You will surely be enthralled by the magnificent view.

Though It was quite a long tiring adventurous trip it was all worth it. We ended the tour with a free dinner at Mayet’s house in Catigbian. Her mother prepared “tinolang manok” for dinner.

DAY 3
It was our last day in Bohol, so we have to enjoy the remaining hours left before Mang Jun picks us up. We dip into the pool for a few hours, then had a late hearty breakfast at the resort’s restaurant. Had a few snapshots then went to our rooms to dress up.  I enjoyed every minute in Bohol.

So far, this trip I would say is the best respite I ever had in my life. I love the place and the people. I will surely be coming back to Bohol.
